NEW YORK 2016 CRUISES planning & info thread. NYC

You can run in Central Park, there are roads inside the park with jogging lanes. After taking your son to Nintendo World (been there a few times), take him to see Rockefeller Center where they have the tree during Christmas time, they have an observation area called Top of the Rock. There is also a Lego store there. Times Square there is a Madame Tussaud's where there are wax figures, if you have time, take in a Broadway show. Go to the ticket booth and sometimes there are discounts on certain shows. Sometimes just sitting and watching all the people in Times Square is fun. Be careful of the people dressed up as characters, if you take a picture with them they expect money. Toys r Us is in Times Square and they have a Ferris Wheel inside the store. While near Wall Street, there is a statue of George Washington. It is supposed to be the place where he took the oath when he became President. You can go to the Freedom Tower, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. If you want to go back on the water, take the Circle Line, it goes around Manhattan. Take in a museum, Natural History, the Metropolitan, Museum of Modern Art and maybe the Guggenheim. The Public Library on 5th avenue (a lot of people like the lion statues). Serendipity 3 has really good desserts, they have the frozen hot chocolate and sundaes. You can go to Dylan's candy bar, M&Ms World and Hershey's. Bryant Park where you can watch people playing chess. You can also look up if there is going to be a festival. The San Gennaro festival may be at that time. Near what was Little Italy in the city there is a yearly festival that has a lot of Italian food to be bought from booths on the street and some fun games. This is what I can think of right now.

And the disney store is where????
I heard they have some GREAT disney NY themed items

(I have priorities straight):rotfl: :mickeyjum:stitch:

The current Disney Store is at 45th and Broadway. They do have some great NYC themed items. Originally NYC had a phenomenal 3 story World of Disney like the one in Downtown at WDW. It was actually administered by Disney Parks. The current one is part of Disney Stores. Their merch stock just gets more and more limited each time we are there, about monthly. Still worth a visit.
For running, there's also the path all along the West side by the river known as the bike path, but just as used by runners, and still some roller bladers. Here's a helpful link -

Second the thought on the "characters" accosting tourists for photo opps. In addition to aggressively seeking $$, more than a few have been arrested for groping or with pickpocketing accomplices.

We can't wait for this cruise in October. It will be number 9 for us! We plan on staying a couple days after the cruise. If we are flying in the day before (LaGuardia or JFK) and get in somewhat late, do you recommend us just staying out by the airport? My DD and I did that once on a quick trip to NYC and it was clean and I think it was safe. Or is it better to head downtown and get to the port from there?

Does anyone know what hotels disney cruise line will be partnering with?

Which one did they partner with last time??
Did they offer shuttle service? Cost? Parking? Ect ect..

I know that they partnered with the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square, and maybe one or hotel as well. You could book through them or book directly yourself; yes they offered transfers at the price of $36 per person, each way.

Ok...I just found a few interesting emails from the NYC 2012 cruise!!

Here's an email from 2012 containing NYC hotel and transfer info!!!!

Hi Theresa!

Here is the pricing for one pre-night, prices do include tax:

New York Marriott Marquis $433
Westin Times Square $409
Loews Regency $457

Ground transfers are $36 each way, for each leg. You can choose from airport to hotel, hotel to port and port to airport.

Just let me know if you would be interested in going ahead with the pre-night and the transfers and I will be happy to update the reservation for you.

Have a magical day!

I'm going to look back through my emails to see if I can find any other good info that may pertain to the 2016 NYC cruises! :)

This email came directly from DCL with info about the Disney world port day for our 2012 NYC cruise:

Dear Theresa,

We are excited you will be sailing with us on the new 8-Night Bahamian itinerary that includes a day at the Walt Disney World® Resort and wanted to share some information about our stop in Port Canaveral, Florida.

While in Port Canaveral, Guests wanting to explore the Walt Disney World® Resort on their own will be offered complimentary motor coach transfers to their choice of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney‘s Hollywood Studios or Disney’s Animal Kingdom (a 1-day Walt Disney World® Resort ticket with Park Hopper® option is also included). Transportation will begin at select times beginning as early as 7:30 a.m. and departing from the Magic Kingdom as late as 11:00 p.m. To ensure the best experience possible, we ask that you pre-reserve your selected Theme Park and departure time at http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/shore-excursions/. For those Guests wanting a more exclusive Theme Park experience, several new Port Adventures will be available to view on our website (using the link above) later this month.

As you and your family start planning your day at the Walt Disney World Resort, please keep in mind that many Disney table-service restaurants are quite popular and can book very quickly. Guests who would like to make dining reservations, may do so up to 180 days in advance online at http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/shore-excursions/ or by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463. Of course, there are also plenty of counter-service dining options to fit every taste throughout each of the four parks.

Again, we are glad that you are joining us for this exciting itinerary. We look forward to welcoming you onboard real soon!

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew

Something just occurred to me -- the Oct 2 Canadian cruise, will that most likely be a Halloween on the High Seas cruise? Or no? (We're going regardless, just curious!)

Are the pools on the ship even usable on a cruise to Canada?

Yes, we were on the EBTA last week and we were in Halifax which was chilly but the pool water was pretty warm. We also used the hot tubs. We were also in the pool in the North Atlantic before we got to Norway. It is chilly when you get out but the pools were heated.

MJ

Also, when the EBTA stopped in Manhattan on May 18th there were no ship excursions to the Intrepid Air/Space Museum which I found surprising. Even though we live in NY we have never been to the museum so we did that the morning of our NY port day. It was wonderful. We really liked it and it was less than a block to walk to from the ship as it is moored right next to Pier 88. We bought tickets on our own. Still not sure why DCL does not do a ship excursion there but it is another option for something to do in NYC.

Yes, I did go to the meet and greet in the lounge!!! I was traveling with 2 friends that cruise. We had a great time!! I would love to go on one of the NYC cruises (live 20 minutes from the port) but not booking anything yet. Going to be grandparents for the first time in 3 weeks (daughter and SIL) and then again in August (son and DIL) so not sure yet what 2016 will bring so not making any plans yet. May be in full grandparent here with the little ones and in Nashville.

I handed out this 4 x 6 collage card to everyone there:

So much has changed from the clocks, to the sunbeds to the buses!!!
