We are headed to WDW for Marathon Weekend. We have hotel reservations for CBR starting on January 2nd. We figured that since we are going to be there on the 2nd, might as well look at coming in on December 30th and spend New Years at WDW. The flights are actually cheaper to come in on the 30th. But the resort hotels prices are o_O. Even the All Star resorts are $250+ that weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on possible lower cost options in the area for New Years weekend?

Maybe try off property. You could go super budget-friendly and sacrifice and do the I4 pits that are $100/nt during peak; $60/nt off peak. Would I do that, no but everyone's different. Probably not ideal before running marathons. Not sure of your travel style but if you want something mostly decent, off property will still likely be $250/nt min. Do you have access to a work discount program? I looked at working advantage and you could get the wyndham, double tree and hilton by LBV for the same price as all stars. At least nicer accommodations for similar pricing, that might be more palatable. I'd struggle to spend $250 for the All stars too. Maybe check hotels or priceline and see what's available. If there's a group of you, maybe also check airbnb/vrbo.

Don't forget to check the Dolphin and Swan (Marriot). They have passholder discounts (QWH is the code). And if you are 55 or older there is a Senior rate often available.

Thinking about maybe trying one of the Flamingo Crossings hotels. Looking at reviews for those and maybe some other options. The Wyndham Disney Springs has a decent nightly rate, but I know they make up for it in resort fees.

Ended up booking TownPlace Suites in Flamingo Crossing. It was $167 a night I think. They only had 5 rooms left. I booked it through Booking.com so I am not paying up front and have until December 28th to cancel free of charge. At least I know we have somewhere to stay. I will keep checking to see if something better becomes available.

In looking at other options, if we stayed at AS Music or AS Sports for the entire trip, 12/30 through 1/8, it would be the same cost as our current reservation at CBR from 1/2 through 1/8.
