Can someone give me some information regarding US and IOA for New years Eve. Planning to go this year, done Disney World before but never US/IOA. What type of activities go on and would you prefer DW over US/IOA for that date. How bad are the crowds ? And can anyone refer an offsite hotel, onsite is $200 and up !!

It will be more crowded then WDW, CityWalk always is crowded, then you add IOA and USF it will be packed well over 100,000 people.

WDW is generally more crowded than USF/IOA...they tend to hit capacity sometime early in the afternoon and then only on-site guests can enter the parks (this is generally the Magic Kingdom where that happens). We got to IOA last year after 4 and had no problem getting in, I don't think they ever hit capacity.

There are fireworks, etc. at both USF and IOA...not quite as spectacular as those at EPCOT or the MK, but still a nice show...of course, they may have been toned down everywhere a bit last year with all of the financial worries, and lower attendance in generally after Sept.

IOA last year had a couple of areas with DJ's - fun party areas, lots of people dancing, etc. Mythos (a full-service restaurant in IOA) had a special event with a special viewing area for the fireworks.

Universal offers a nice alternative to WDW, and it was my choice last year as being packed in at WDW just didn't excite me! ;)

I know we rang in the new year at IOA last year, and we'll be there again this year! :)

Mike

where did you find actual attendence figures that would substantiate 100,000 in attendence for new years last year?????:smooth:

New Years 2000 Universal had an esitmate of 105,000 people there.

New years 2000 was extreme all around for attendance...hardly the norm...

Are you trying to say that USF had 78K people in the park in one day and that's more than WDW has had in all 4 parks at any given time? I'm just trying to see if I follow you... ;) Or that USF has broken any one day attendance record that any ONE of the WDW parks has had? And when was this? Which spring break? Just curious. :)

I mean, EPCOT would have a higher capacity than USF, wouldn't it? (Hey, I don't have numbers here, I'm just guessing) and it's been at capacity...or pretty darn close!

It's an interesting idea, the numbers...but since the parks don't release them, they are a little skewed at times, I think...

This is the Article I am talking about posted in the Business Section of the Orlando Sentinel on 4-4-02.

Oh, ok...if the Orlando Sentinel said it, it MUST be so!

Just kidding...but the parks don't release actual numbers, this is just one account of the numbers...so it may or may not be accurate.

I'm always curious how a park can break records when there are only a set number of guests that CAN go through the turnstiles before they stop allowing more in...

anyone know what the capacity is at IOA and USF?

On Friday, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure had a record breaking 73,742 people come through the turnstiles. On Tuesday, they broke that record at 78,390 people shattering Walt Disney World's 4-Park attendance record set back on 3/23/2000 of 72,395 visitors.

This is a real interesting number. I'm glad that the Orlando Sentinel can come up with such an accurate number for park attendance when the parks don't discuss the figures that attend their parks. I know that EPCOT has reached capacity on several occasions this summer and they can hold around 30-40,000 people. I find it real hard that 2 Universal parks can have more people in the park than 4 Disney parks and 2 of them (MK & EPCOT) are larger than the 2 Universal parks.

well Bob consider the source. The Sentinel would not know a fact if it was typed and printed for them. It is the one part of Orlando that did not enter the 21st century with the arrival of Disney and Universal. IMO:smooth:

So Bob Gault sent that out and the news broke the story from that.

Odd since Universal doesn't release numbers to anyone, as far as I've always heard. But I've got nothing further to say on that, since I love Universal and don't know what was actually said, but there would definitely be a certain amount of personal gain to release numbers, skewed or otherwise.

Now, as for the Eisner quote, I need a little more than a snippet of an article from Florida Today to believe that Mike Eisner would make a snotty statement like that. They don't tend to sling mud, and that smacks of a mis-quote or someone else's interpretation of a real quote.

Either way, I just have a hard time believing any of it.
But that's just me.
I'm not big on heresay and playing the telephone game. ;)

Hi barbyo!
Check out the Radisson Universal for a Fla. discount rate. We stayed there 30th & 31st last year for about $70 per nite.
Asked for a high floor facing Universal, got to see both parks doin' it up!
Were in the parks all day (chilly, as I recall), warm & toasty in the room at nite. Grabbed drinks & party favors in hotel bar (Sharky's, or sumthin' like that), went to sleep as the throngs were exiting the parks.
But I'm an old f*rt, go get in the mix if ya like! It's only about a $5 cab ride from CityWalk to Radisson.
Good Luck & welcome to DisBoard
Jim

Thats an interesting quote. Do you have a link to the entire story, nWo?

Are we a psychic (sp) now? I'm amazed that you can see that the stock holders in an upcoming meeting will be voting out Eisner and who they will bring in.

Yeah, the "news" that Eisner is leaving next year was definitely "news" to me! LOL

Karen :smooth:

Thats news to me I work for Disney and I havn't heard anything about it. The only way for him to leave is on his own, which he isn't or for the stock holders to vote him out.

No, I watch the news and Michael Eisner is leaving in 2003 and Disney has started to search for his replacement.

http://www.newschannel2000.com/

They had the story on last night on the 5pm news.

Mike

Can you provide a link to the story rather than just the website, I went there looking for it and even did a search for Eisner, which found 0 results. I did a search for Disney, and there were numerous stories, dating back quite a ways...I'd like to read the story. :)

Thanks!

Once again on part of the info was sort of correct. What has happened is the largest corprate stockholder group has met they want to sugguest to the board of directors that they come up with a line of succession for when Esiner does leave. There have been no reports of him leaving next year and them picking someone else to run the Mouse.

Esiner still has a few years 5-6 I think left on his current contract. It would take a butt load of money to get him out of there before then.

Esiner bought 10 million worth of shares. He did not dump them the next week. That is illegal and would be considered insider trading.

His contract is not up next year. It is up in 2006 and here is is current contract.

Michael D. Eisner ("Executive") and The Walt Disney Company, a Delaware corporation ("Company"), hereby agree as follows:

1. Term

The term of this Agreement shall commence on January 8, 1997 and shall terminate on September 30, 2006.

You word is crap for a reason!!

Europa you are correct on that one that the stock holders do want to get rid of him. They have been wanting to get rid of him for the past 1 1/2 years but it was never brought to a vote at the last meeting. I think it might come up this time, but the problem is that they (Disney) would have to buy out the rest of the contract and that would be real expensive. That is partly why it was never brought up at the last meeting.
