Most people make a resolution this time of year to get off the couch and get some exercxise or quit smoking. Well WISH warriors are ahead of that game, we been there done that and have the T-Shirts to prove it.

We talk to each other all year but really know very little about each other. As a get to know you post just prior to a lot of us meeting for the first time I thought it would be fun to exchange business cards, so to speak.

Please tell what you do, what you like or don't like about it and what is your dream job if you are not already doing it.

My pretty princess Erica is an RN working in a large Hospital. She works on the floor where you would go if you were having chest pains. I know she loves her work since she pours her heart and soul into it. When a patient is under her care, I have no doughts they have the best.

I work at a Lenscrafters Optical in a mall. I love the work, I'm the evening manager and optician. I can run my store the way I want and ensure my customers get the best in fitting and accuracy. The down side is I can't do my own advertising and frame ordering.

I'm retired from the Air Force and the time I spent as the First Sgt of the Hospital Group at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas was my dream job. I had the chance to work with the Docs, Pts and Diet folks to develop training and fitness programs for my troops. I got a lot of good informaion from Kenneth Coopers human research lab in Dallas. He is the one that coined the word aerobics. For a long time the military used his theorys to design fitness testing.

Please share your job experiences with us.

Great post Dave!!

I am a medical transcriptionist for 2 large local hospitals. I work at home which is probably the best part of my job as I can set my hours and be here for my family. I also do this job because it is easy for me. I used to be an office manager/medical assistant for both an orthopedist and a neurologist and the pressure was too much as were the hours. My kiddos are young and I feel a greater responsibility there. What I don't like about my job is some days it is difficult to sit here at home and look outside at the beautiful sun and not be out in it. Sitting and typing for docs for 7-8 hours is not much fun but I guess it is what you make it right??

My dream job would be interior design with personal training on the side. We live in a very rural and depressed area so neither of these is a lucrative venture, hence, my chosen path. My favorite job I have had was when I got to remove stitches and staples and take off casts.

Well, I am supposed to be a SAHM--but I'm really a jack of all trades at the moment. I am a licensed pharmacist and do that bit every 3rd weekend for Walgreen's. I've also worked in Nuclear Pharmacy, which was the best pharmacy job I've held. Right now I also babysit in my home 2 days a week. And I also work at a local gym in the daycare 2 days a week, mostly for the benefits (free gym membership).

I probably will go back to working full time as a pharmacist sometime in the next year to pay for school tuition for DD.

My dream job would be to open my own running store. It would be great to work with and around people with the same love as mine. We have some friends that are considering opening a holiday/Christmas shop if they sell their current business, and I would definitely work with them there.

DH is an electrical engineer for a international paper products company, right now in a plant manufacturing Huggies baby wipes. I think his dream job is to teach math to high school/junior high students (hey, to each his own, right?)

I work for my municipality. Used to run recreational programs for kids and adults (that was fun). Then I became a supervisor (not as much fun).
I also started taking American Sign Language courses to attempt to become an interpreter for the Deaf (could be a pt job when I retire from ft).

My dream job would be working with the dolphins at Sea World/Discovery Cove. Due to an inner ear problem, that won't happen. So my next dream job would be at WDW, roaming the parks, making sure folks were having a magical time.:goodvibes I'd like to be snowbird there with my DVC points and work pt.

(Friends have laughed at that, saying Disney doen't pay much. My response is, "I'm retired. I'm not doing it for the money, but to help others have as good a time as I've had when I'm there." That would make me have a good time all over again.

I am a physician assistant in an endocrinology practice. We used to be fairly broad-based, but have narrowed our scope so that we're primarily thyroid specialists. I see about 15 patients daily, do ultrasounds and will be learning to do biopsies this year. To keep up my general medicine knowledge, I write continuing education programs at night. I also occasionally speak at local and national meetings.

I am also a licensed pharmacist, though I haven't worked officially since I was a hospital based oncology pharmacist in 2003. I do get a lot of non thyroid-related drug questions from patients once they see my diploma on the wall in the lobby.

DH is a network services manager for the YMCA here in Sarasota. His department takes care of all the computer stuff for the fitness centers as well as the foster care agencies in Sarasota county and some of the surrounding counties. Some of that may be changing as the foster care contracts are up for renewal soon.

DH's dream job is to be a WDW boat captain or drummer when we retire. My dream job would be creating a non-profit where I can combine fitness and helping folks without having to go through their insurance companies, maybe something like Susan Komen or TnT. Of course, an adventure travel business would be cool too.

I won't be at Disney for the races, :sad2: but I will tell you what I do, anyway!

I run our corporation. My DH is a gas and oil field consultant. He makes sure that natual gas flows from the properly maintained well into the gas line to your city where it becomes heat for your homes and electricity! I do all the forms, the filing, the billing, the accounting, bill paying, letter writing, permit seeking, etc.

The downside is my boss/partner/husband are the same person and his boss/partner/wife is the same person, too! The up side, is that I get to work from home for the first time in my life. And I have time to spend with my family and see my grandbabies and go to work in my jammies!

I am a metallurgical engineer for a specialy steel company. I've worked for teh same company for 24 years, since I graduated from college. For 24 years, I worked in the plant in various functions, but this past summer, I decided to do something new, and transferred to a position in technical sales. As a result, I moved from Ohio to SC.

Like Stephanie's DH, I always thought it would be great to teach math or science in high school.

M'Lisse used to work in Customer Service at the same company in Ohio, but since moving to SC, she has been a domestic engineer (house frau) AND LOVING IT.

I'm a 4th year medical student at a school in Maine but have only spent 3.5 days in Maine since June 2006. Will be there 8 of the next 9 weeks though. Wonderful scheduling that was but then I'll only have 2 more weeks of clinicals to meet my graduation requirements.

I matched to do a pediatrics residency in Honolulu, Hawai'i at Tripler Army Medical Center. Part two of work for me is that I'm also an Army officer, 2LT now and will be a Captain in June.

Dream job- neonatology at a hospital near an outdoor playground. If I stay Army that means Madigan in Tacoma WA or maybe even Hawai'i. Hawai'i has one of the Army's three neonatology fellowships and since I'm doing residency there...

I'm a retired USAF Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). Retired in 1998 after a 24 year, 8 month, 5 day tour of duty.

I currently manage a herd of thirty 911 call takers/dispatchers for the Sheriff's Office in our county.

My dream job = no job. :thumbsup2 After retiring from this one, I'm staying home.

I hear that Vic. I guess that has to qualify for my next dream job to. I just have to save a bit more, ok a lot more, so I can still lead the same life style. I like traveling and doing and seeing, I don't wanna stop that.

OK Steff what part of the Panhandle are you located? I have been meaning to ask you for a few months. I grew up in Dumas and work for a pipeline company that has it's start in that area.

Hey, cewalt! Nice to see some home folks on here!!! :goodvibes We live in north eastern Wheeler county, about a mile from the Hemphill county line and about 2 miles from the Oklahoma line. This is where the gas fields are really concentrated right now. My DH, began on drilling rigs, but is now doing well clean outs and completions.

Hello folks,
I am a Correction Officer in Southeastern Connecticut. I have been there for 6 1/2 years and I don't hate it yet. I am told that the 10 or 11 year is when the hate will set in. I am trying to keep a positive mind, though. It's a good job for the most part but the inmates can get stupid occationally.

I am not sure that it's my dream job but I would like to be a guidence counselor when I grow up. I would like to help kids more than I was helped by my awful counselors.

My EX and GF will both be supporting me during the races (one with hugs and the other with rocks and bricks, I'm sure). My GF is a child life specialist at Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford.

Hi everyone :goodvibes

I won't be doing the 1/2 Marathon this year even though I got the packet :sad2: I will be in Orlando though for work that weekend so I will be supporting you all a whole lot closer than the small midwest town in Iowa where I reside.:yay:

This past year I completed an MBA and started a great job with a brand new factory in my small town. It's a satellite plant for a Fortune 500 energy company. I work as a financial anaylst and love it :cool1: My eventual goal is to be the financial controller for the plant.

It is so nice to read all of your stories :thumbsup2

Mel a little over 14 years ago an endrocrinologist saved the love of my life :lovestruc My son was a preemie and his pituitary glad didn't work. After 6 long weeks in the neonatal (sp) intensive care unit my son came home. I will never forget those 6 weeks nor the care those wonderful individauls gave my son :worship: Thank you for the job you do. It is one that I know I never could and I am so thankful for those that can and do :goodvibes

Hi everyone-

This is where I wish I had some incredibly cool job to report. In a past life, I was an operations manager for GE Capitol. It wasn't unusual to handle the flow millions of dollars or millions of dollars in assets every day. It was a fast paced and extremely demanding job which is why I resigned when my first child was born.

Nowadays, I am working my dream job. I am a SAHM to my three kids. It can also be fast paced and demanding. Unfortunately all the dollars seem to flow in one direction - out.

My Dh works for a large mining company. He handles over 20+ mines and manufacturing plants in North and South America. His mines are mostly mineral mines. He likes to describe his job as digging up dirt by the ton and selling it by the teaspoon.

Fun thread.

My husband and I are attorneys in a small town in GA. We are self-employed. I do a lot of the behind the scenes typing and organizing although I will occasionally forgo the tennis shoes and go to court. We focus mostly on consumer bankruptcy. The best part is that I have flexible hours; the worst is that when I want to quit (like the week before Christmas!), I can't come up with a good plan for my replacement and it would be a little awkward at home...

I'd like to stay at home with the kids more. We just took the week off for the holidays. I took Harry to his "school" today. He was excited, but I'm a bit sad now.

I'm not grown up enough to have a dream job, but I used to tell everyone at court that I was going to move to Orlando and sell Diet Cokes at that little stand in the shade at the base of Splash Mountain. Oh wait- I thought of a dream job- trust fund baby. I'll need to find some new relatives for that one to work...

Jen in GA

I'm a senior project manager in the IT group at Harvard Business School Publishing in Watertown MA. I started this job December 3, 2007 so I've only been here one month; the honeymoon phase is still in affect! Before that I was at Babson college doing the same thing and I was there for 7 years. It got so bad at Babson that I left. The people here seem to really appreciate my work and think I'm doing well. That is extremely refreshing.

I am an attorney for a large law firm in their employment services group. I defend medium to large size companies against claims of discrimination etc. but I also do a lot of HR training/advice which is the part I prefer.

My dream job is to be a labor attorney for Disney--but unfortunately most of those jobs are in California (I check the website regularly for their job postings... LOL!) and the one thing I will NOT do is take the bar exam again!!!! LOL.

I manage the graphics department at an "international business machines" company. (LOL Subtle, eh? :lmao: ) I've been in this position for eight years. I manage 15 graphics illustrators who do all sorts of work but mostly internal presentations. I like the job itself, it's just all the corporate BS that goes along with it. There's still way too much of "the ol' boys" network here. Very discouraging. :sad2:

Prior to this I was on a S.W.A.T. team here. No guns, but we analyzed software that this company makes to be sure it works on Windows, which is made my our competitor. Now that job was fun! We travelled a lot, went to customer sites, generally had a good time while doing some really neat work! Naturally, it didn't last....

DH is the COO of a commercial construction company, which specializes in corporate interiors. He does the estimating on very large jobs.

He is working on his Dive Masters certification right now, in hopes of working at The Living Seas, or rather The Seas With Nemo and Friends. He's done Dive Quest so many times they know him by name there. My dream job is to work at the Tri Circle D Ranch. I'd be so happy to work there! :yay:
