New X-Mas Decor at the Grand Floridian

. I have to admit that aside from its size, the GF tree (which I saw two years ago) didn't really blow me away. Huge? Yes! Well decorated... I didn't particularly think so. I found the large mirrors and birdcages to be, well, not particularly Christmas-y (although I'll grant that they were totally in keeping with the decor of the hotel). For me, the best tree (outside of the parks) has always been in the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge. That said, I will be interested to journey on over to the GF and see what all the fuss is about!

::yes:: I agree.

Why oh Why did they have to do that? I Absolutely LOVE the Tree at the GF. We have been there right after Christmas several years and get to see the Christmas Decorations every time. It's sad that they had to change it and even more upsetting that they couldn't improve. Not that there was any room to improve. I didn't understand the large mirror and other "different" ornaments at first but, they really grew on me. I understand cut backs, but at a time of the year when they pack them in and have higher rates you would think that they would not cut back. I hope someone gets a picture soon. I am really curious.

I too am disappointed. My family has saved for over a year for our trip to Disney and to stay at the Grand. The Osborne Lights cancellation came as very sad news. And, now our lobby tree that I promised everyone would steal their breath away and showed pictures is downsizing.

Maybe we should all call and see if we can bring the old tree back.

Our family has done the same as yours....I had talked up the Osborne Lights and then it was cancelled.....now the tree, and after showing everyone the pics on Deb Wills site!!! I just hope they leave the Gingerbread House the same.....I am going to take a deep breath....release.....

My family has stayed at the GF the week before x-mas every year for the last 5 years. Awesome decorations and the tree is undiscribable. Every year though, my DW comments to me that the decorations are in decline. Cut backs and less decor. It does not in the least shock me to read this post about the change in the tree. But, I think us DIS'ers can do something about it. Lets all start calling the resort and bombard them with our feelings. But first, I think we need a picture post on here. Any other thoughts on calling or other way. Maybe this Dis board can get last years tree back! I'm bummed about this because my parents will be with us and it is there first trip to the MK.

Just curious, unless you have seen the tree or an actual photo how do you know you are not going to like it. You are going to just call up and complain based on the post of a total stranger that has never posted until this thread.

I do hope as you stated you wait for a photo or several eye witness accounts. Also be assured the person taking your phone call will have had no decision in the tree decorations.

PLEASE DO NOT START BASING YOUR DECISION ON ONE PERSON'S POSTINGS. TO START WITH, HOW DO YOU KNOW HE IS TELLING THE TRUTH? IF HE IS, IT IS JUST HIS OPINION. NOT ONCE HAVE I HEARD ANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS IN REGARDS TO DISNEY'S CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AND IT WOULD BE VERY SILLY TO DECIDE TO CANCEL OR CHANGE RESORTS BECAUSE OF ONE PERSON'S OPINION. THE GRAND FLORIDIAN, ALONG WITH ALL OF WALT DISNEY WORLD, ARE REKNOWNED FOR THEIR CHRISTMANS DECORATIONS. TO ME, THIS PERSON SOUNDS A BIT BITTER ABOUT THE GRAND FLORIDIAN. WITH A NAME SUCH AS WDW MANAGER, HE MAY EVEN WORK THERE.

DISNEY IS KNOWN TO ONLY TRY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER FOR US. LETS NOT BRING THEM DOWN UNLESS WE PERSONALLY HAVE EXPERIENCED SOMETHING NEGATIVE AND EVEN YET, REMEMBER, NO ONE AND NO PLACE IS PERFECT.

is there a picture available so we can see this affront to nature???:teeth:

Does anyone remember the pointsettia tree that used to be in the GF lobby? We loved that tree & were disappointed when it changed several years ago. Fortunately someone sent us a postcard of that tree at the time.

Please read all posts in a thread before making comments like this. There is not just one person.

"Just curious, unless you have seen the tree or an actual photo how do you know you are not going to like it. "

I loved the mirrors and the bird cages on the tree. I happen to love the victorian theme part. Does this satisfy your curiousity?

Now, I have several eye witness accounts, just waiting on the photo. Perhaps he will pass it to the appropriate managememt.

I agree with you, DZNEEXPERT. Let's all pass judgement once we see it ourselves.

This thread has made me so curious to see a photo of that tree...... and I'm not even going during Xmas time! I hope we can see one soon!:D

 I hope your wrong about the tree this year, but I still love the GF i've stayed there 3 years in a row now. My DD and I will be there in less than 2 weeks for Thanksgiving. I may call the GF today and ask whats up with the tree. I do hope someone gets a pic of it. I will keep checking.

I tend to agree with you. I can't believe that the new decorations are anything but beautiful. Come on folks, take a pill and enjoy the season.

Hi~

You may all already know this but, I just saw the picture of the GF 2002 tree side by side ti the GF 2003 tree. QUITE a difference IMHO!!! I found it on this site by entering the theme park info button on the main page and then entering the subtitle special events. The pic is listed as Grand Foridian Cristmas tree 2002 vs 2003.

Well...now seeing them side by side, even though the tree is narrower?? , I do like the change of lights....it makes the tree much more homey and warm!!! It is still a magnificent site, and am glad to see the gingerbread house in the background. Grand Floridian, here I come!!

Hi Folks, I went over to the Grand Floridian the day the tree went up and took pictures of the new 2003 tree. We have posted the photo of the 2002 tree and 2003 photos side by side so you can compare. Please be aware the 2003 photo is a little deceiving at first glance. The pictures on our website are again located at the following link.

Here's the exact link: http://www.wdwinfo.com/holidays/Gra...n_xmas-tree.htm

First thing to notice is from the same angle the 2002 tree does not let you see the gingerbread house that is in the same spot both years. You can see the Gingerbread house in the 2003 photo because the tree I would guess is half as wide as the 2002 tree. Next look at the chandalier next to the 2002 tree and see how far it hangs down from the top of the tree. In the 2003 photo the same chandalier is almost where the top of the tree is. I would guess it is approx. one floor level shorter or roughly 10 feet shorter. I am going to go back and duplicate how far I zoom in on the 2003 tree later this week so a true comparison can be made of the two trees side by side.

Watch the holiday photo area for more 2003 Christmas decorations in the coming days and weeks as they go up all over WDW Property.

Also keep an eye on the Christmas photo area for a surprise I am planning for that section.

Thanks webmasterbob for the picture! It isn't as spectacular as last year's tree, but it will dwarf me and my little ones. I look forward to more pictures.

2 weeks to Disney and counting!::MinnieMo

We LOVED the poinsetta tree. We had that one on our honeymoon and was quite dissapointed when we went back and it was changed over. We have an awesome pic of my dh and myself w/minnie in front of the tree. Now that tree was a beauty!

Well, it's pretty enough for me. I can't wait to see it in person when we take my mother outlaw to the afternoon tea. Mickey
