New What Are You Reading!

I just finished Tales of Beedle the Bard which I thought was a lot of fun and a very quick read, and I just purchased Emma by Jane Austen which I've been meaning to read since high school (aka about 20 years ago).

This book entertained me part of a looooooong flight overseas for business last month :cool1: Kept my mind of the "fun" of the flight :thumbsup2

Seeking books on the same vein as Doctor Who/Torchwood and True Blood.

2 weeks ago, I finished Multiple Blessings by Jon and Kate Gosselin & Beth Carson.

I am now on book 3 of the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke, I loved the movies, but the books are much better.

I am not much of a reader and I used to LOVE Danielle Steele, but eventually lost interest. I haven't had much time to read anything with my schedule, but decided to start these and have found myself making time to read.

I LOVE the Odd Thomas books!!! HAve you read any of them yet?

As for me, I just finished Watchmen...one word...brilliant!

Next I'm stealing my wife's copy of Inkheart.

Read the first one and I'm a couple of chapters into the second. DH REALLY likes them and I got him the 4th one for Christmas

Hope this isn't too OT but did you ask for the e-book reader and if so can I ask why? I've seen them as I'm a huge reader but I thought that books were more not less expensive that way and of course no way to share with others.

Also, the free downloads is this only for the e-reader? I've looked at the Kindle too but still seems like a lot of money for what it does... Maybe I'm missing something???

I didn't ask for the e-book reader, in fact I asked not to get one, or anything for that matter. You see, my DH is obsessed with electronic gadgets, and is convinced that this device will decrease the number of books in our home. I like it, but I only downloaded the free books that were on the Sony site and some of the e-book classics which I don't already own.

The Sony is far cheaper than the Kindle and since they just released a newer version, this one was even cheaper. It is neat and compact, which is nice for me since I always have a book on me, just in case. But I am not planning on replacing the books I already have with electronic versions, I love the feel of real books.

I hope this helps answer the question, if not let me know what I missed.

I'm about to finish The Pillars of the Earth. I have absolutely loved it.

Next up, I have the sequel - World Without End. Can't wait!

Those two books were excellent. I loved how long they were and following the characters for so long. I was so sad when I finished the second one. I would love if he would write another one.

I'm on the second book in the Twilight series.

I have to be honest and admit that I'm not impressed.

The first book was slow, and all the second one is doing is reinforcing the fact that Bella seems like a self-centered brat.

I'm going to keep going and hope they improve.

<-Running away and joining the witness protection program now...:scared:

I've heard that he's signed on to do more. Can't remember how many. But they've got to take a LONG time to write...

If you haven't read Nelson DeMille's Gold Coast, that's a fun read. The sequel came out last month. Entertaining, but not as good as the first one. (Sort of how I felt about World Without End.)

I am reading Jane Eyre right now, which I haven't read since High School. I am definitely enjoying it more this time around!

I'm reading "The Christmas Sweater" right now - it's killing me!!!!!! (so sad)

Jenny:)

There was almost 20 years between Pillars of the Earth and World Without End...in fact, Pillars was one of my favorite books, but I haven't read World without End yet...I would like to re-read Pillars first, but the two of them together are a DAUNTING prospect!

Currently reading Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima for book club. I'm only a few pages in, so I don't know how I feel about it yet.

I really want to start World Without End as well. I guess if I start now I'll be done by Feb....unless it goes quickly?

Tonight I'm going to start Light on Snow by Anita Shreve......So far I have enjoyed everything I've read from her.

I just read that yesterday!

I need to get more from her - I wasn't crazy about "The Pilot's Wife", but would like to try others now!

My order of discount books from B&N came yesterday! I have 5 more to go from that order (Bradbury, Clive Barker, Nora Roberts, etc) to go and then I have 2 books about the NSA from James Bamford.

:)

The Pilot's Wife is the only one I didn't like....I actually didn't even finish it.
Have you tried any Elizabeth Berg books? I love her as well.

no, but I will have to look her up. I think I might put another order in at B&N to get a few more! Thank you!:)

I've discovered "cozy mysteries" so I've been reading lots of those lately. Right now I'm reading "Slay it with Flowers" by Kate Collins. Before that I read "Dead Canaries Don't SIng" by Cynthia Baxter. I loved that because the heroine was a veterinarian with a mobile practice and she had 2 dogs, really cute. Any other cozy mystery fans?

I'm Currently reading "These is my Words" by Nancy Turner. It is based on her ancestor's diary about living in the Arizona Territories in the 1880s. It's one of the best books I've read in a long time.

I also agree with the Outlander series (where is that next book?!) and Water for Elelphants.
