She says that since we only go to Disney every 3 years or so, its not worth it. Key is that we only stay at the Contemporary MK view normally. Also, I was only offered $6.00 a point incentive even though I was referred by a DVC member. Sounds a bit expensive. But we only want the BLT.
I know what you mean. We only bought in last year because of BLT as the CR was our favorite place to stay and only wanted to be in that location.
With an every 3 year plan, you would only need 1/3 of the points as you can used . What size room would you be looking to stay in? Even a 2 bedroom, with MK view room, in Magic Season (highest point cost other than Xmas and Easter weeks) is 465, meaning you would only need to buy in the minimum 160 points.
That would run you around $608 per year in MF's, and an upfront cost of around $18,000.
Of course, if you travel at other times, or would not need the 2 bedroom, only a 1 bedroom (which sleeps 5), then you could go resale and try to find something with less points.
I do think that when you are going every 3 years, the cost seems a bit high as it takes you longer to recoup your initial investment. But, if you would be okay with an MK view studio at BLT, a 70 point contract is all you would need to make a every 3rd year trip. Those are starting to show up on the resale market and will only be around $7500 or so.
