Still undecided about the DVC. My wife is not completely sold on the idea. My DVC sales agent told me that Monday morning is when they update/change the incentives. BLT is the property I am most interested in with a use year of June. Has anyone heard of the this weeks incentives?

Thanks in advance

:) DVCNews.com usually has the most current details. I wouldn't wait too long or you may miss out on your June UY 2009 points. With new contracts that have not past their UY, you will usually get the 2009 points and then June 1, 2010 get your 2010. They will bank your 2009 points for you even if past the banking deadline for this buy in.

Thank you for the tip. I will check out that website. Any other helpful hints you can give me to help persuade the wife would be great also.

We bought BLT last week, and as PP stated we received our 2009 points, plus $14 per point off the purchase price. We were quite pleased with that.

You received $14/point off? I knew there was a sliding scale for the developer credit... Would you mind telling us how many points you purchased?

Not at all... we purchased 450 points. Originallly we were told it would be $12 off per point, but then our guide checked something and said he was mistaken and we would get $14 off per point. I think it might have been because a current DVC member referred us, but I could be wrong.

Actually, I believe the extra $2 off per point was part of the promotion they announced a few weeks ago... he may have had an old chart. When we bought about 1-1/2 weeks ago, the chart still said $6/point off for the minimum contract (160-200 points), but we received $8/point off. I just wondered if they had raised the incentive again. Congrats on your great purchase! =)

Ah, yes, that sounds about right. Thanks, and congrats to you, too! :cheer2:

:) So to the OP, what is keeping your wife from wanting to purchase DVC?

She says that since we only go to Disney every 3 years or so, its not worth it. Key is that we only stay at the Contemporary MK view normally. Also, I was only offered $6.00 a point incentive even though I was referred by a DVC member. Sounds a bit expensive. But we only want the BLT.

I know what you mean. We only bought in last year because of BLT as the CR was our favorite place to stay and only wanted to be in that location.

With an every 3 year plan, you would only need 1/3 of the points as you can used . What size room would you be looking to stay in? Even a 2 bedroom, with MK view room, in Magic Season (highest point cost other than Xmas and Easter weeks) is 465, meaning you would only need to buy in the minimum 160 points.

That would run you around $608 per year in MF's, and an upfront cost of around $18,000.

Of course, if you travel at other times, or would not need the 2 bedroom, only a 1 bedroom (which sleeps 5), then you could go resale and try to find something with less points.

I do think that when you are going every 3 years, the cost seems a bit high as it takes you longer to recoup your initial investment. But, if you would be okay with an MK view studio at BLT, a 70 point contract is all you would need to make a every 3rd year trip. Those are starting to show up on the resale market and will only be around $7500 or so.

The more I think about it, the times I most likely will go with the family is late August. Disney has conistently ran specials including free dining and tickets at this time. Don't you think that these specials make the DVC that more expensive since I would be losing out on the Disney deals for staying in the regualr hotels?

That certainly should factor into your decision... especially if not the entire family is on board for DVC. We spent many, many Disney vacations thinking about membership before we finally took the plunge. When the kids were younger, I'm not sure we would have benefited from the membership due to travel dates, current specials, MKC membership and AA deals, etc. that fit our travel style a lot better back then. However, now we travel at times where the DVC membership by far proves to be the better choice. We're there every year during Food & Wine Festival, for instance, where free dining would not be something we utilize. We're too busy grazing around the world at all of the kiosks and attending the special F&W events.

One thing I can say though, looking back, is that if we had joined DVC earlier, we could have stayed in nicer accommodations with our children while they were young and perhaps had more stress-free vacations. Or, we could have rented out the points during years where we felt the Disney specials were a better fit for our travel (using the money from the rent to pay for the specials offered by Disney).

Thanks a bunch for your input. My kids are 7 and 4 but have only been to Disney once with them. They love Disney but who knows when they get older. Since I don't visit WDW that often, I like to stay at a deluxe resort such as the Contemporary. Partly because I can walk to the Magic Kingdom. Not a big fan of Monorails. DVC might not be the best option for me at this moment I am guessing.

We just bought last year and most of my kids are teens or tweens. I wish I had bought when they were 7 and 4!
