New WDW TV commercial really annoys us

We saw a new WDW commercial last nite. It is one of the ones promoting the 50th anniversary. That alone really ticks us off since it is not the 50th anniversary of WDW but of Disneyland. The fact that they are celebrating it in Florida continues to annoy us.

But what REALLY upset us about this commercial is they have video of Walt Disney giving his opening day speech at DL, "To all who come to this happy place, welcome." But his image is superimposed over the WDW castle. They certainly give the impression that he was at WDW when he spoke those words.

I so wish they would go back to celebrating significant anniversaries in the appropriate place like they used to years ago.

I thought the same thing. I've been listening to the Disneyland 50th CD in my car for the past few weeks and it has a recording of Walt doing the same speech but continuing with "Disneyland is your Land". I guess because Florida is the most popular choice, they are pushing that the most.

I still have my "100 years of magic" shirt. :confused3 I still ask: "What was magic from 1901-1927 or so?" :confused3

I have a friend who told me that it was WDW's 50th anniversary and I said that it was DisneyLAND's 50th. She called me last night and said that she had just seen a commercial about it and it was WDW. I told her no matter what it LOOKS like, it is not WDW's 50th because WDW wasn't built until the 70's sometime.

That commercial makes me cry! I can't wait to get back there.
Yes, it is a bit annoying, but hey, my money goes to the same place....Disney.

Drives me crazy too! Its Disneyland's 50th not WDW!

Oh who cares! I don't care whose anniversary it is! I went and bought every gold anniversary thing I could buy and loved every bit of it. It is their right to celebrate with all the parks. I can't believe that some, and not the ones here, complain about this, yet think nothing of telling every CM and every ADR that their kid is celebrating a birthday and in reality it isn't happening for another 6 months. That annoys me! LOL!

::yes::

To me it's a celebration of 50 years of Disney fun and it doesn't really matter where it started.

It annoyed us too! I understand it's a marketing ploy, but it's very misleading.

I saw this commercial for the first time about an hour ago and thought exactly the same as the OP. It's sad that they are giving people the impression that WDW is having their 50th anniversary simply to get people to go there. It's not as if people aren't going to vacation at WDW otherwise.

I also don't understand people who want to celebrate DL's anniversary at WDW. If I know two brothers, call them A and B, and A is having a birthday, I'm not going to celebrate at B's house if A isn't going to be there.

I was so excited to see Walt on tv that I didn't even notice anything else.

ITA! Now I've had to postpone my honeymoon and will very likely miss this celebration due to health problems. THAT is something to really be annoyed/upset with.

It doesn't bother me, but I'm not a Disney purist. They are often stretching to come up with a celebration theme. I'm just happy to go to WDW every few years.

I thought I was the only one! Just last night I was telling a friend what they did and how sacreligious it was. Walt never gave that speech to WDW. Only to DL. Perhaps being a DL native and So CA local compounds my annoyance that DLs 50th birthday is being "sold out" (because the word I want to use isn't DIS friendly) to the other parks like it is.

Count me in as another that's a little irritated by this. WDW always seems to get the glory, but this is Disneyland's moment to shine. The first & best Disney park deserves nothing less!

It's a shame that Disneyland is pretty much being ignored during its own celebration. It's such a nice place too and really deserves much more attention IMO.

To the OP--just remind your friend that Walt had already died when the Magic Kingdom in Florida opened. When she can prove otherwise, then you'll let her be correct ;).

I'm just annoyed that I can't go to either WDW or DL anytime soon.:(
