NEW - Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Announcements

Things i love:
the castle design with the gold ribbons
Mickey and Minnie's new outfits
Overall color scheme

Things i don't love:
more of the dangling carrot play - more to come. follow us for more details. I get it, logically, but it's annoying.

I do like the concept art for the Castle (remember the birthday cake lol lol)

The one bad thing I think that will come out of the new castle look, we will probably never see the holiday lights again on the castle during the Holidays.

I'd change can't to won't. They could be doing A LOT more now and certainly in 7 months, but hey if ppl. are going to get excited and come either way, why spend the money.
yup

That first weekend in october pretty much ALL DVC and ALL the resorts are fully booked already

They know they have people hooked already.

I felt the 50th Anniversary segment was more for the masses who might not know that this is WDWs 50th. Its a way to draw interest and get the general public thinking about a WDW vacation. It did not offer really anything to the Disney fanatics that know what this year is and has expectations for the celebration.

Just as with plans for new tiered aps, new fp system, new app integration, etc. They will release new info on the celebration the same way. When they are ready. The days of insider info has been drastically reduced/ eliminated due to internal and external circumstance. Don't expect much info to be posted anywhere ahead of time anymore. And fwiw, pete doesn't know anything. He proved that last spring. His reputation isn't the best with Disney or the insiders who have access to information.

Yes but did they show the Epcot monorail?

Oh I just saw more of the details... Looks magical to me !

I might be in the minority, but this announcement made me feel those magical warm fuzzies about Disney again. Even just Disney acknowledging the 50th at all and telling us it'll be an 18 month long celebration was nice. Maybe it's because I'm stuck here in Canada and am hoping to be there next spring, but the new decor and details looked wonderful to me. Now for our border to open up so we can be there in person to enjoy it :)

I’m loving the colors from what I can tell, but will the castle be covered in scaffolding while they are decorating, for those of us going this spring/summer? It almost makes me want to reschedule.

Fellow Canadian, hoping for a trip next spring/summer (hoping to land June 18th), I'm with you. I love the looks of the castle and the new costumes for Mickey & Minnie. I showed my kids and they were very excited by it.

One can only hope there will be more given it starts in Oct and is 18 months long. I suspect this will be the case and they need to see how COVId impacts play out.

Call me a fool, but Disney could also be sensitive to their CMs and diehards in California who would be over the moon for new decorations at an open park... considering they don’t even have a reopening date for the hotels.

reading the DL thread just now broke my heart. They’re happy we get something here in WDW but also totally frustrated by the lack of flexibility in California.

yes, Cali residents can and do travel to Florida, but there’s nothing like a celebration at your home park.

I’m excited to see what else gets announced with this celebration, and hoping for good needs for DL and DCL as well

I immediately wondered this too. I would hope not because that would be really disappointing. It doesn't look too involved though?

That’s what I’m thinking, but am still nervous about it! I guess we’ll see. Hopefully they start soon so we can tell how it’s going to be!
