Amy - :) Welcome to the team! I'm also doing the Race for the Taste, I'll look for you there.

Deb- Yippee!!!  I'm glad you'll be at the Princess 1/2!

Hi Amy, welcome to the walkers. We are walkers and party animals. I will not be doing the Race for the Taste since my pretty princess and I will be doing the Tower of Terror Race in Oct.

If you go to the DisneyRunning.com site there are tons of pics from the races.

Welcome Amy to our crazy and dysfunctional family. We are all a little weird but we try to have fun.

Update Tonight, I wasn't able to get a workout in but I was able to double check my distance from last night. I was a little off from my estimation. It wasn't 4.5 miles but 4.3 miles. If I did my math right, that would make a 14 minute 20 second mile. I was hoping to be sub 14 minutes but at the same time that would be a little too much too soon. I am planning on a long bike ride tomorrow and Thursday but I am also going for another walk on Thursday so I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for everything!
Bryan

I know it is late (that is, when I am typing this) but I just went for my walk. I would have went earlier but I spent a very long time at the gym doing my weight training and bike riding. Then, I came home and had some issues that I had to deal with. Plus, I needed to recuperate a little. So I just went out a little while. The time was not exactly what I was hoping for but at the same time, I haven't been doing actual walking for long. Well, not walking for time trials (so to speak).

Anyway, here are my totals:
3.5 miles in 47 minutes

I feel like I could have done close to another mile to finish off the hour but I am not for sure. So if I am doing the math right, that is still a 4.2-4.5 mile an hour pace. For someone who has really bad form, I guess I will take it.

More to come later! Have a good night.
Bryan

My first Half Marathon (DL last year) I finished in 3 hours 29 minutes and 56 seconds, with 4 seconds to spare! I do know of several others who finished in a longer time who did get medals!

:cheer2: :cheer2: You finished....AND got a medal......that's all that counts!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good job!

Superdebbie: Congrats on signing up for your events...you won't regret it!     You will love doing TofT....for those at the back of the pack, it's like a moving party!

Amy: welcome to the WISH borads! :welcome:

Bill: why is it we only hear from you when someone mentions "party"! :lmao: How ya doing, buddy?

Heck yes the party is in the back. For everyone who doesn't know we post pics and reports over on the DisneyRunning.com there are some really cool shots of all of us on there. Nancy and Jeanne had fun with the funny hats.

Has anyone bought a Nike wristband yet? They give you pace, distance and I think a tingle if you push the right buttons. It works with the Nike+ thing that you attach to your shoe or if it's a Nike shoe it will fit inside the sole.

I had a nice 4 miler today, blassed out a ne3w route since I forgot to bring my watch.

I had a great week this week. I put up the most miles walking in one week than I have ever done. I did a total of 18 miles walking. Plus, today I set another PR. I took my family to the track for some walking and did a slow paced first mile to get warmed up (just like the Panda suggested) and then I ramped it up. The 2nd mile I was able to do in 13 minutes. After doing that (and everything else I did this week), I had to slow it down a lot. My hamstrings were knotting up. I did finish one more mile but then I had to stop.

I basically did too much this week on the bike when you include this type of training.I am taking tomorrow off to recover and then I will get back at it Monday.

Hope everyone has a great night and weekend.
Bryan

Wow, Bryan, I am so impressed with the rapid progress you are making! Congratulations!!!!

Superdebbie, I agree that the ToT is a lot of fun and I hate that I can't return this year. Of course, any race where Dave and Erica, and Jeanne and John, and any of our other WISHers are gathered is a lot of fun.

Gang, if you need lessons on what NOT to do in a race, you can check out my race report from yesterday's Charity Chase Half in Hickory NC. I called it "the train wreck that almost was". It takes up the first TWO posts on the thread, but it's pretty funny.

Charity Chase Half Marathon, or the train wreck that almost was

I loved your Race Report about the train wreck!!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

I did my LW today getting ready for the DL 1/2, 6 miles in 1hr27min7.27sec - which included a dog incident (see the dog thread Panda).

Possibly thinking of doing the WDW full marathon in 2010, just was thinking about it today on my walk.

Nice work with the walking bubba!!

Today is a rest day for me. Sounds like Byran is doing great, glad you took the advice of warming up to heart, it's a good thing to remember, especially if you are going to do a race.

I'm still doing everything right and making good progress:

Warm-up
walk training
cool-down
strength training
stretching/pilaties moves
proper nutrition
manualy doing chores like mowing
getting good sleep

I have made some amazing progress. I was already in good shape but in the last two months since my injury layoff:

2" off waistline
lost 18 lbs
increased flexability
PRed on my training routes
lost all the residual soreness I used to have

Have a great Sunday y'all.

Bryan - You are doing a fantastic job, building up your walking distance and speed (and doing it wisely).

Dave- Glad to hear things are going so well for you. Sounds like you are doing a fantastic workout routine, as well as regular good life choices.

Tracy - You are doing so awesome. You are inspiration to me for doing more miles.

This team rocks! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Today is supposed to be my LW but I spent 6 hours yesterday moving landscape rock and I'm so sore that I'm having trouble getting motivated. I would probably feel better after walking, so I will probably talk myself into it.:)

SamSam: Here's me talking you into it...talk, talk, talk.:rotfl2: Did that help??

SamSam, my mantra for this years training is "Earn This". It's from the movie "Saving Private Ryan". Tom Hanks says to Private Ryan after everyone has died to save him, "Earn This". I have dreams of being an elite racewalker. I know if that is to be a reality I must earn it. There is no free ride.

When the hill is steep, or the day is hot or I'm craving junk food, I remind myself that if I want to achieve my goals I have to earn them.

Now get up, get wearmed up and go outside and play, you will feel better for it and one walk closer to your own goals.

Besides I'll tell Tracy to keep after you till you do.

I really do appreciate everything that I am learning and re-learning here from all of the Pros. I have been having some good results too (like Dave). Although my weight loss has stopped, my stomach and abs are getting tighter. Clothes are fitting looser in the waistline and I feel like I can do things that just a month ago, I wouldn't have tried. Like I had said yesterday, I had planned to do another 5 miler but since my legs were so tired and cramping up, I thought it better to stop and train another day. My immediate goals are to stay under 14 minutes per mile and build up to a 13k (TOT distance). I know I will not be able to do that particular race this year, I just want to get to that point.

As far as my progress, I owe it to 2 things. The advice that I have been given here and the fact that I may have an obsessive compulsive disorder. When I get into something, I go ALL out. I may never be the best but I will be better than a lot. I have actually come up with a tagline that I haven't put up yet but I am piggy-backing off of Tracy's. Let me know if you like or if someone else has it.

"I may only be walking but I am running you down!"

Sums it up, doesn't it. Have a great day!
Bryan
