:lovestruc HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!:lovestruc

Welcome Sarah! Jump right in!:welcome:

Maria: OMG, you poor thing.....I would have had a heart attack, and then eaten a WHOLE pizza! Don't knock yourself down over what already has been done. Everyday is a new beginning. I'm just thankful it all turned out OK.

Nancy: don't forget that shoveling snow is a strenuous activity so it should be added to your hours

(Dave: along those lines, breaking and entering is NOT!)

I think John is sick of me wearing my marathon shirts. I have 4 altogether so it's become a daily ritual. We usually don't exchange Valentine gifts, but in my card today there was a note that something from a jeweler would be coming soon. Just about a week ago I saw a little 26.2 necklace and remarked that I might be willing to give up my marathon shirt for it! I think he remembered!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone :lovestruc

I've had a really down week, but reading of Panda's antics helps bring a smile to my face.

Welcome Sarah! Always nice to see new folks.

Planning on some treadmill time tonight, just hope that work/life/weather, etc don't throw a monkey wrench into my good intentions.

I've been wanting to get a 13.1 charm for a necklace or bracelet to keep me motivated for my first 1/2.

Happy Valentines Day:lovestruc

Yesterday was beautiful here, in the 60's and for a while, no wind. I got my regular dog walk in early, as the forcast was for worsening weather, but it stayed sunny and warm. I got out to water our trees (a Cheyenne thing, you are supposed to water trees and bushes at least once a month in the winter:confused3 ) and even took dogs out for another loop (1.25 miles) around our street as it was so nice.

Today is a different story, woke up to a couple of inches of new snow, making some nice drifts! The wind is back, blowing snow around at about 20mph:scared1: I may not make it outside at all today, expect to shovel the snow drifts by our back doors.

Sarah - my first race over 5K was last years Disneyland 1/2. I was very apprehensive that I could keep up the 16 min/mile pace, but I made it with 3 seconds to spare. I did much better at the WDW 1/2 this Jan. You will have no problems if you can keep up a 15 min/mile pace on a treadmill. The excitement of the race seems to increase your speed (or maybe it is because I am not dealing with 2 dogs when I race). We will also be at Disneyland's 1/2 this year.

I'm going to try to hit a few smaller races in my area before the DL 1/2 to see how it is to do a real race. I'm sure it's much different than my treadmill run/walk.

Oh Maria, my heart goes out to you...I would have been frantic! :scared:

Robert & Dave: Go easy give your bodies time to heal. :goodvibes

Good job Panda - Your Sweet Erica will the the Love Panda & Pampering at the Spa! :cloud9:

Welcome Sarah :cheer2:

More snow expected today and we have a heat wave it is 21 degrees! :sad2:
Still feel 'not so very good'. So I am having a Terrible No Good' week with my time & miles. Sorry but just getting the necessary things accomplished wore me out.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I like to think of Valentine's Day as healthy Heart day ! I am using this day to help the ones I love have healthy hearts, and me too!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Maria: like others said, wine would have been in order with that pizza!

Sarah: Welcome!! I don't run either. Walking is good enough for me!

Nancy: Uno was so cute - glad he won especially since there were two poodles in the running.

Connie: You are lucky to find running clubs that take walkers. Like Nancy I've been met with less than welcoming attitudes. Even our one here at work is for runners only.

Lynn: That's a nasty change in weather. :scared1: Would say "Welcome to Chicago" except this winter we haven't been able to get above 35 for more than one day then it's either freezing rain or snow right after.

Well have had a bad week here. Bad weather taking it's toll I think and have felt really down past few days. Just no desire to do much of anything. Spent some time getting myself mentally movtivated again yesterday. Bought Marathoning for Mortals and plan on starting to read it at lunch (speaking of....) and get myself back on track starting today. I know I can do this! :yay:

Wish me luck!

I've been wanting to get a 13.1 charm for a necklace or bracelet to keep me motivated for my first 1/2.

I saw the 13.1 earrings at the expo this year and really wanted them but felt that I shouldn't buy them in case I didn't complete the 1/2. When I came home I did a search on the net and bought a pair for my dd and my sons gf and of course ME.

A nice incentive. My daughter saw someone wearing one earring 26.2 and one 13.1, she had a goofy bib.

Nancy wrote and Denise agreed: Connie-- You are so lucky that the race clubs in your area support walkers. I asked about the one in our area which was started by the owner of where I buy my sneakers and the response I got was less than welcoming. So I never joined. I just thought doing some of the races would be a change of scenery.

I went on a web search! I found several clubs who were elitist sounding with mission statements about being for RUNNERS only kind of thing, but I kept looking and found the two clubs that stated for runners and walkers on the front page! I have actually met some of the members at different events and they were very Wish-like! Since the distance is so far, I won't be too involved with the club and meetings, I mostly wanted the newsletters!! :)

Good Afternoon, Fellow Walkers!

I am happy to say I rallied last night and did both Tuesday's and Wednesday's workouts. I could do that because it was a half hour of biking and a half hour of weights. Tonight it's back to the TM for an hour.

I had salmon and rice for dinner last night, so that was a big improvement. Tonight it's black bean soup, a favorite of mine.

Denise -- I want a pair of 13.1 earrings! I'm going to start hinting to dh in December, so he will get a clue.

Sarah & Liz -- I love MfM! It is a great book. I followed the Half Marathon Walk plan, and I beat the sweepers!:cloud9: Oh, and in case I didn't say it before -- :welcome:

Connie -- Yep, gotta get that heart rate up today. We took a walk at lunch and the wind pretty much blew us over.

Kathy, Margie -- Some weeks just don't turn out the way we planned. That's ok, I'm trying to concentrate on overall consistency, which I think will yield better results:)

Lynn -- I agree about the race excitement increasing your speed, I know it helped me!:woohoo:

Jeanne -- I love your strategy of wearing your shirts until you get jewelry! Unfortunately, I could go naked and it wouldn't occur to dh that was the answer!:rotfl2: (ok, I said that for effect -- disclaimer: He did buy me a beautiful 1 c. heart pendant today, so I'm on :cloud9:)

Nancy -- The ice must go! Maybe we could WISH it away!:wizard:

Dave -- I knew you were going to take good care of Erica today. That's our Panda!:thumbsup2

Everyone have a great walking day!
Maria

Hey, all....

Just a quick note to let you know that due to a bizarre comforter accident, I have pulled my trapezius and my neck is too stiff to move. Taking a day (or two if needed) to rest it. Alternating ice/no ice during the day, ibuprofen, moist heat at bedtime.

Hope all is well and your Valentine's Day is wonderful.

Wow Duckie, you be careful girl, we want to keep you around. We need all our pretty princesses.

Trade you a sole achillies for your sore neck.

I'm so excited, I received my copy of Marathoning for Mortals in the mail today and just the first 2 chapters have me looking forward to reading through the rest of the book.
Have a great weekend.

I went out and picked up a copy of Marathoning for Mortals yesterday, it sounded so good from everyones discussions of it. I liked the idea of plans for walker/runners and runner/walkers as well as walkers and runners. Since I am a walker to a walker/runner, and Scott is a runner, it should be good for both of us. I haven't had time to look at it yet, but I hope to get to it this weekend.

Weather looks good today, light wind for the first time in 2 weeks! I will have to take advantage of that today. Scott is hoping to get home early from work, so he may even get out for a long run in decent weather.

Black bean soup sounds good, I may plan that for next week. Scott wants to make carnita's for the weekend (I'd better get the pork loin out of the freezer).

Dave - again, take care of the ankle, we want to keep you here also. Take the advise that you are always giving everyone else!

Have a great day!

just checking in to say Hello and good moring to everyone. No walking yesterday but spent some quality time with the hub. We had a nice evening out. At times we need to work on our training, our jobs and our relationships – it’s all a balance and I’m finding that now.

Last year was train, train, train, this year it’s a little bit of everything and I’m happier with less stress. I thought I would never make that ½ marathon and trained to avoid the sweepers. Now I train to maintain and improve my times.

The boy – aka Nick, aka IT’S ALL HIS FAULT. wants to do it again so HE can improve HIS times. Alas, he has no money so we may work out a deal.

Have a good day, will stop in to update my miles over the weekend. Yay! we have Monday off too.

Denise, you are a very smart princess.

Several of us on here are so blessed that we can share our love of adventure with our spouses. Erica and I have been very close for 23 years and our races and training are a wonderful addition to that.

It is awesome to win a walk race, but when I can finish an event with Erica and hold her hand high in the air in victory, even though we are in the back, the feeling is beyond words.

Smiling Panda:hippie:

Dave: hope the ankle feels better soon

Duckie: ditto for your neck.

Lynn, SamSam: you will love MFM. The part about crossing the finish line actually made me cry. I read it before I had ever completed a full marathon and it just made me want it so bad!

That is so sweet! Patrick supports me totally and yells as I finish however he walks at a pace that requires me to nearly jog so he's always a good distance ahead of me.

Started reading MfM and am enjoying immensely! Love the way it's written as well as the content. Also having the multiple plans means both Patrick and I use it.
