New wait-list process designed to improve Member experience

I have have three degrees, one an Engineering degree, but I can't wrap my poor little brain around this one. How does this free up inventory? Won't people still reserve as many nights as they can get wherever they can get them (as long as they don't reserve multiple rooms for the same people on the same night which they can't do)?

When's the next Condominium Association Survey? I need to vote in that one. Or is that what we are voting when we get the after MS survey each time we call????? I googled this and can't find anything anywhere.

Isn't there a Spring issue of the Disney Files due before the Summer issue in May???? Did someone seriously just come up with this garbage last week too late to make the Feb mailing of DF?

It was a real joy to be a DVC member from 1997 when we joined until about 2003 or 2004. When they announced, then never really unannounced Eagle Pines, announced SSR (I do like SSR, though), dumped Vacation Magic and replaced it with Disney Files, suddenly announced AKV (who even saw that one coming), denied VGC for years, denied BLT for a year....it all started down that slippery slope.

Like Sammie, we were some of DVC's greatest cheerleaders. No more.
What year did Jim Lewis take over?

Soooo.....

If I wanted to waitlist for an AKL studio, and really wanted any studio, there are 9 different room categories that you could waitlist. Will you really only get to pick 2???

I guess you are going to pick 2. :rotfl2:

Have you ever noticed how long it takes MS to set up a wl? I set one up with 3 choices and it took 10 min.

You would probably have to take the morning off to make your 9 AKV variation call.

I called MS today to clarify the new WL rules. So, in the AKV studio example above, one could only choose 2 of the room categories available for booking. For ex.- WL for AKV Studio Stnd View and AKV Studio Savannah View. THAT's IT, You've now used your 2 WL requests up. Let's say you have a SSR 2 bedroom reservation and you would like to stay at either VWL or BCV. Well, you better decide what type of 2 bedroom you want to waitlist for, because a 2 bedroom dedicated and a 2 bedroom lock-off count as 2 waitlists, even if at the same resort. So, in order to include both VWL and BCV, you would have to request specifically BCV 2bdrm dedicated or VWL 2bdrm dedicated. You couldn't include a 2 bdrm lockoff in your request, you'd be over the limit!

Wow, See I think this is 10x a bigger (i.e. "worse") change than the point charts......

Maybe the point chart "slip" was just a decoy to have everyone so riled up over it, that they felt they can slip this change by the membership.:rotfl2:

I don't really mean that btw, those '10 charts are going to be real, just wanted to :lmao:

All I can say is Wow! All these changes, I just can't seem to catch up. It's time consuming just to read all this stuff that Disney has released or not released. I don't get the WL, It must have confused the computer programers.:rotfl2:

Wow! That's far worse than I expected from my interpretation of what they'd said. I've put in wait lists before that simply said, "any studio on property." I always figured that was a single waitlist, not 10. Now I have to get lucky in my guessing of which resort will be the one that someone cancels a vacation at?

Yikes! I'm more bothered now.

Shall we list the possible waitlists from which we can choose 2???? Any corrections or additons?? I believe AKV is the one resort that breaks apart dedicated and lock-off studios into two different room types, but I'm not positive about that.

I called them yesterday and they told me the opposite- that one waitlist could be for as many resorts as you wanted- but would end with one resolution- being the booking of one room or a WL cancelation by you.

This sounds like the current rule to me. :confused3

I'm not sure they would define all the room types I have listed as different waitlists but it could and may be interpreted that way.

Personally we don't waitlist very often but this rule really limits your abilities and I'm not sure I understand the gain is for MS.

Let's see, I bought into DVC in June. Since then I've taken 1 trip. However, they're changed from II to RCI, changed the point charts around, and are now limiting the amount of resorts I can waitlist for. The scary question is, what horrible change is next. I spent a lot of money for flexibility and wonderful vacations for the next 50 years. I'm starting to think that maybe this was a bad choice. What are they thinking???

To me there's the rub. You've been a member for less than a year and have had to witness what is becoming the largest changes since DVC began. I on the other hand have been a member since 1997 and have experienced very little to no changes during that time frame.

I'm not crazy about the changes, but they really don't affect my travel plans that much. We were always told to buy where you wanted to stay the most. And DIS members like Dean, ChuckS, and Webmast Doc have been warning us and telling us for years that these changes could happen at any time. So I'm just really surprised by a lot of the reaction like this could never happen. Does it suck? Yes, but if you completely understand the system and have read the POS then you know they are doing nothing against the rules. I just hope everyone can work through this and get the vacations they want. If they can't then they will sell their points and make other arrangements.

But for me, DVC is still the best thing going and I fully intend to use it until my membership expires.

So when they say two active waitlists per use year, does that mean that if I WL for a room on a vacation in Jan and said vacation is over, can I waitlist for 2 rooms for another vacation that does not occur until Sept? Or since I WL back for my Jan vacation, I used up the WL that I could use in my UY even though that vacation is over?

I'm so confused. I went to school until I was 27 and have an advanced degree. I still can't get over these changes.

It says "active" waitlists. I interpret this to mean that once a WL is either fulfilled or cancelled, it no longer counts against your limit. In your example, if you WL for a Jan vacation and the waitlist comes through, it is no longer active and no longer counts. If it doesn't come through within 7 days of check in, it is automatically cancelled and again, no longer counts against your limit.

The worst for me was being told that because I already HAD a reservation ( AK Jambo value studio) I couldn't have a waitlist for a concierge studio for the same dates. I was glad to have something but I would have preferred to have concierge vs. value and I was willing to take one or two days if they became available vs. the entire week. It's no longer possible to waitlist a different room type if you have something already booked and now we can't waitlist day by day. The only way for me to waitlist a concierge studio was to cancel my value studio reservation. Does that make sense?---Kathy

I guess that's what they mean by freeing up inventory. You can only waitlist if you don't have a reservation.

Wow, that really changes the strategy of booking your resort at 11 mos, then at 7 mos. waitlisting for another resort! So if I read this right, that will eliminate having ANY ressie once you go on a waitlist?
