New vs Add-on member direct pricing

Well my guide just said they wouldn't take her $11000 and sell her less than 125 points which is absolutely ridiculous. I have a call into a manager to see what they can do cause that makes no sense to me. Since when has Disney EVER not taken the $$. They are the biggest cash grab co there is. As a referring member it makes me look stupid for even suggesting it to my friend. She cant afford more than the $11k right now so she cannot do 125 points. And she doesnt want to finance it.
Resale!

So, that was for AKV? 125 point minimum?

If so, wow! They are going back to their old ways. As I said, they were super strict at 160 for quite a long time.

This aligns with what I have been told too. If your friend truly wants to go direct I would suggest she do it now as cheaply as she can while getting a resort she is happy with. In the year or so we have been kicking this around we have seen minimums raised and point prices raised multiple times. I get the hesitation as we are going through the same thing but I can tell you that should we utimately decide to do this our hesitation has cost us 1000's over if we had just done it back in early 2019.

Yes that was for ANY resort. I already have a call into the DVC guide's mgr and an email sent to Terri Schultz. We will see how it ends up

Wow, I’m shocked too. I first bought in early 2018 with a 50 point direct AKV. They were happy to take my money then! I’m sorry, your friend must be disappointed.

No she would be a new member, she is interested after hearing me tell her how it all works. She goes every other year and stays at Pop, so DVC only really makes sense by doing a small amount of points for studio stays. She will prob add on after she gets hooked but for now that is the way she wants to start out. She knows she wouldnt get a blue card but if she buys direct and eventually adds on, it is my understanding that if she gets to 125 points then she would get the blue card. But thats all stuff i'm going to find out tomm. My guy knows he better give me the straight up answer and not play any games. We have been owners since 1994 so I know how the game works lol
If your friend is happy staying at Pop and going every other year then I have to strongly recommend NOT doing DVC.

1) The math doesn’t work - Pop is cheaper, even at its freshly outrageous sky prices, than any DVC room except perhaps the value studios at AKL, which she’ll never actually be able to book
2) She’ll lose all of her flexibility because of the 11 month booking window
3) By going every other year you increase the odds that points will go to waste.
4) Pop rooms have 2 real beds, something only OKW, SSR, and Riviera can say in DVC.

DVC makes sense for certain people in certain situations. That is not one of them.

Pretty sure when I bought VGF direct in 2014 they required me to purchase 100 points minimum. That was my first contract with DVC.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread for my question. As a new direct buyer, how many points do I need before I would qualify for the 'Current Member Add-On' prices?

For example, as a new direct buyer, it looks like you can buy Saratoga for $180 x 50pts. Can I just buy 50 SSR points then can add smaller contracts at say BCV? or do I need to have the 150 points direct to qualify for 25 pts min direct from Disney.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks

As a new buyer, you can not buy direct for less than 150 points. That is the same as needed for perks.

If you buy resale first, then you can add on less than the 150 abs work your way up to 150 to qualify.

But, DVD will no longer sell a new owner less than 150 even if that owner does not care about perks.

Just to clarify, if I own a re-sale contract I would qualify for 'Current Member Add-On' pricing direct? Never looked into direct before. I just want a small 25pt contract with same use year with no hassle of RORF and the waiting.

Yes, you would qualify for add-on pricing.

Correct and keeping it the same UY is what allows you to add on a small amount.

If you wanted a different UY, then they would require you to get the 150, but the price would still be the current member pricing.

My wife and I talked to a dvc sales person at the boardwalk model home.on January 18th. We was looking to buy A boardwalk contract. He informed us that the price Per point was going up $20 on the 20th so we had to make a quick decision. The next day we went back and told him we wanted to buy 100 point contract.
he informed us the minimum was 150 points and 50 point minimum add on after we bought one. I told him we couldn’t afford that and we would have to buy resale if he couldn’t sell less than 150.
He said sorry you will have to buy resale.
so we are in the rofr wait time now for a boardwalk resale :)

He was erroneous in his information that 50 points was the minimum add on, we just purchased 35 a couple weeks ago.

It depends though on the resort being discussed. RIV and CCV require 50 points so it isn’t wrong information for those resorts.

I believe BWV is what was being discussed with the guide. Based on my recent experience at the same resort it was bogus information.

Just adding context for others who do not know it’s resort based.

I expect VGF to rise to 50 points when it sells again.

I read on here, may have been old, that the add on minimum depends on financing or not. I thought they would sell you 25 for "Cash", but it was 50 if financing. Is it just 50 for the most part, regardless? Can take resort rules out of it, pick the most lenient resort, is there a minimum difference for add-on on cash vs finance still? (or ever, I may have misunderstood that old post)

We paid cash for our recent 35 point add on but I don't recall how we were going to pay being a factor while we were discussing the number of points we were going to buy. We originally thought we had to buy 50 then found out by reading posts here that we could do 25 but eventually settled on 35 as that more closely suited our needs at the moment.
