New Virus warning!

Just thought I'd post a link about this. I got a frantic call from a friend yesterday who never gets Windows updates and rarely updates her anti-virus software to keep up with the latest worms out there. Her PC was full of Spyware from Kazaa that her daughter had recently downloaded. Her Norton Anti-Virus was also acting up. Just take a few minutes and protect your computers, especially if you are at risk.

If you want to rid your PC of troublesome Spyware, check out Spybot Search and Destroy. Removing Spyware reduced the volume of pop-up ads I was getting.

The Homeland Security warning is in reference to the Blaster worm. I would hope that by now most people (and especially DISers) who are running Microsoft Windows have gone out to the Microsoft website and installed critical updates.

The issue of spyware is completely different than viruses. KaZaa (and many other "free" programs) are loaded with spyware. The program KaZaa-Lite has been released that is spyware free. I believe that it was Pete that posted something when the "lite" version was released.

As far as spyware removal, I can also recommend AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com

I use it daily to keep my computer free from spyware.

I was reading about the Homeland Security warning on the CNN.com website and, although the warning is about an attack that is similar to the Blaster worm, it is indeed a new form of the worm. Apparently it is targeted at Windows 2000 systems and does not effect any other versions of Windows. Yet.

The moral of the story: Keep your anti-virus and anti-spyware software updated and check for security updates from Microsoft often.
