New TTC Thread

Just checking in - things have been pretty quiet here.

Allison - not sure where in Louisiana you are but hopefully you are far enough inland to be safe from the storm.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for checking! I'm in the Baton Rouge area, so we'll be getting a bit of the hurricane for sure. We're expecting to lose power, but hopefully that's about it. I don't think we would flood here. We were in a different house for Katrina, so it's hard to say. My mom is probably coming up here tomorrow. She lives south of New Orleans and her area is under a mandatory evacuation so she's heading up here tomorrow. The darn track keeps changing so it's hard to determine what's going to happen! I have all of our flashlights out, extra batteries purchased, and I've started bagging the ice from our ice maker just in case. Also, the grill has a full tank of propane! Other than that, it's just sit and wait and see where this crazy storm goes!

Skuttle - Prayers for you and your family and anyone living in your area right now. Stay Safe!!!!!

I'm in the "older TTC" category too. I'll be 40 in a few months and sometimes I feel like my time has come and gone. :sad1: But hoping that there is still one more trick (baby) up our sleeve (or twinkling in our eye, or whatever the saying is)
On a good note, the new VP choice for McCain - Sara Palin, is 44 and just had a baby a few months ago. There's still hope for us all.

Happy Labor Day weekend all!

D&D,

I just wanted to tell you our family's happy story to prove that anything is possible. My uncle got married 5 years ago to a woman who already had a son. They tried for a few years to get pregnant, but never had any luck and the doctors told them they weren't going to be able to have any children. She found out last spring, very unexpectedly, that she was pregnant. She was already almost 3 months when she found out since they didn't think it could happen! My uncle is 41, she just turned 40, her son graduated from high school this year, and she is due in October. I just went to her baby shower a couple weeks ago. She's had a couple comments that it was an interesting way to deal with an empty nest - just fill it back up again!

I don't know how many people are still here trying - it's been quiet in this thread! I am 12dpo and trying to decide whether to test tomorrow or not. My doctor gave us the go ahead to start trying again after the ectopic, and I'm really hoping to be pregnant this month. I've always wanted a May baby.

Hope everyone made it through all the storms safely!

Hi everyone! We made it through the storm. We still don't have power at home, though. My office building is located downtown, near the capitol so my office has power and I am able to check the internet here.

We have a generator and a window A/C unit that we purchased right before the storm hit so things aren't TOO bad at home. It's been cloudy, but I think the sun is supposed to come out this weekend so that will be tough, I'm sure. Not sure when we will get power back. Luckily our neighborhood is a new one and there are no large trees, however, the highway leading to our neighborhood is a different story and there are a lot of trees and power lines down.

We lost a few shingles, but that's about it. The winds were really strong for an extended time so we are very lucky that we only have some missing shingles. The wind was coming at us from the side, and the houses in the neighborhood are pretty close together so that helped minimize the damage. The houses where the wind was coming head-on sustained a lot more roof damage.

The majory street in our town with restaurants, wal-mart, etc has power so we were able to make a wal-mart run yesterday (only letting so many people in at a time), get more gas for the generator (only 1 hour wait so not too bad), and even stopped to pick up pizza at domino's. We're getting a bit stir crazy stuck inside all day, though. DS is VERY upset that he's been missing school. LOL!

Maybe we'll end up with a hurricane baby since there's not much to do with no power. ;)

Allison - Glad you made it thru with minimal damage. Hopefully Hurricane Ike will calm down before it gets to the gulf as well.

Vertrik - Thanks for the positive story. I will be 39 in October so definately feel the age thing. Let us know if you decide to test. Fingers are crossed for you.

Hi everyone!

Allison - glad you are all safe with minimal damage to your house. My DDs would be stir crazy cooped up in the house for that long. Good luck!

vetrik - hope this is the month for you.

Everyone else - keeping my fingers crossed.

We have been incredibly busy with work, school, soccer - and soon to come Girl Scouts and CCD. I laid awake for hours last night trying to remember everything we have to do in the next couple of weeks. :scared:

The girls' birthdays were 8/27 and 9/2, so that has kept things hectic, too. We went to see the Jonas Brothers on Sunday night - DH was thrilled. They chose to do that instead of a birthday party, and I have to admit, it was a lot easier.

We are having a chimney put up to save on fuel costs for the winter. We had to take out a window and DH has a lot of work to repair both the inside and outside of the house. Besides that, it is his busy time at work and he is getting the flu. Just lovely.

I find myself counting down the minutes every night until it is time to go to sleep.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts.

Denae

Glad everything is ok your way Allison! We're gearing up for it tomorrow, but I think the worst will miss us, maybe a little rain at worst. If you'll PM me your son's name, I'll do a postcard to him while we're there in a couple weeks. If there's anything you want it to say, just let me know.

I haven't written much lately. My first monitored cycle (had to do a baseline and midpoint ultrasound to monitor lining and follicles) didn't work. I was on Femara and did a trigger shot of ovidrel. My Clearblue easy fertility monitor did indicate ovulation following the shot, but it just didn't work. This time, I had about a zillion follicles, instead of the one I had last month. Femara's not exactly supposed to do that, but I apparently had a really good reaction this month. Only 2 were estimated to be big enough when I did the trigger, so the possibility is for twins. I didn't think the ovidrel worked this time because the monitor wasn't showing peak fertility, even though it's supposed to take effect 36 hrs after. I got it today, which is 6 days later. Not sure what to think about that. It makes me feel a sense of relief that maybe the shot did work and that there is still a chance for this month. I can test next weekend, so about a week or so before we go to WDW. Hopefully I won't be riding the big rides! I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high, but not to worry too much and to maintain hope. Tough to balance the two!

I am so stressed out at work right now, so hopefully that won't cause any problems. I really need our vacation in the worst way!

Thanks for sharing the story. It really helped. Love to hear of the "ooops babies" (only for people who are struggling of course;) ) Please tell us if you test soon. Isn't it sad when you have the 9 month schedule memorized by now (i.e. - conceiving in Aug = April baby, conceiving in Sept = May baby) Sigh...at least, I do. Can almost tell you the exact due day if I know the ovulation time.

Skuttle - Baby dust for a storm related / power outage baby!:wizard:

WDWAurora - Sounds good this month. Fingers crossed.

I had my first IUI September 2. I had to miss the first day of school, but getting pregnant would be worth it! It took 45 minutes for them to insert the thing into my uterus! I am trying to be realistically optimistic.

Good wishes and prayers for all trying!

Hopefully that's a good sign. :thumbsup2

Nothing to report here, but I did have a question. I've felt today like I did after my HSG...not the super painful part, but maybe a day or so later. It's almost like pressure. Do I sound insane? Has anybody else had this, or does it mean anything? I'm probably making something out of nothing due to my anxiety to test.

Hope everybody's doing ok...looking forward to hearing some good news out of this group soon!

WDWAurora,

I remember with my first daughter I felt like I had a water balloon in my tummy.

Good luck!!!!! Now you got me all excited for you!

Aren't you going to Disney soon??? You'll have to test before you go.
Maybe you'll be the good news we've been waiting for. :thumbsup2

I feel really bad today. Remember that fertile sister of mine. Well, I just found out that they went for an ultrasound and couldn't find the heartbeat. She is having a miscarriage.

D&DDisney - :grouphug: for your sister. That's terrible.

WDW Aurora - feeling like there was a heavy lump in my belly was the only sign I was pregnant for the first 2 months. So maybe...... :)

TAKitty - how was the IUI? I'm doing my first this month, and don't really know what to expect.

Speaking of IUI - my insurance is paying for all the meds for a mini-stim cycle!!! I was going to back out when I found it was going to be about $1000 for meds, but they're covering all but $40. Not sure about the labs and u/s, but I'm assuming if they pay for part, they'll pay for it all. So, as soon as AF shows up, I'm going to start stabbing myself :scared1: That should be fun....

The IUI felt uncomfortable but not horrible. I don't get cramps during my period so I can't compare to that. Mine took 45 minutes for them to get the tube in the right spot. They actually had to push my uterus down. That did hurt. I had an HSG and all came back perfect so I am not sure why they had to do this.

Good Luck! I am waiting for AF to come in the next three days. I don't feel pregnant, but I don't know what pregnant feels like either.

My insurance doesn't cover IUI (700). The meds they may cover, but I haven't had any yet because I ovulate regularly. My problem is my DH.

WDW - Good luck, I really hope this is the month for you! When are you going to test?

D&D - I'm sorry to hear about your sister. That's always hard.

TAKitty - Good luck to you too! One of my good friends got pregnant with her first IUI this time last year and has a beautiful 3 month old daughter.

So, no May baby for us, it was not our month. On to June! The only good thing is that I finally have a normal chart on FF, so I have some idea of how my cycle may go normally. I had my ectopic pregnancy the first month I charted. I didn't start temping until CD9 (when I finally bought the thermometer), and I never even got an ovulation day. Months have never felt so long going by as these do, and then you get to the end and start all over again.

BFN this morning. I haven't given up yet, because AF isn't here (was here days ago last month) and my fertility monitor didn't show ovulation until several days after I did the injection, so maybe it didn't take right away. I'm just hoping that if I'm not, that AF doesn't hit right while we're at disney.

I'm trying to think positive for this month, if I AM pregnant, I will be absolutely thrilled. If I'm NOT...I can ride everything at disney and I don't have to sit out of my favorites.

This thread has been really quiet. I hope everyone is doing okay. We are getting ready for fall break. The kids get out next Thursday for two weeks. We are headed to DL, Legoland and Sea World which should be a great vacation from everything going on here.

Just wanted to wish you all well. It took us a long time to have our sons, and I go back and forth on a third child because the heartbreak of not seeing a BFP MONTH AFTER MONTH AFTER MONTH is so hard.

This thread has been quiet - I hope you are all off celebrating good news..

No celebrating going on here, unfortunately. *sigh* Just more of the same. I should have had my annual back in August but I keep putting it off because I hate going there. My secretary's daughter gave birth last week. And a friend of mine just announced that she's "knocked up" (her words, not mine) with her 4th. I'm sorta okay with it though. She has two older kids that they adopted because she couldn't get pregnant, then had surprise #3 and now #4.

Looking forward to our trip next month!

And I'll be turning 30 this month and celebrating with my girlfriends by going to the NKOTB concert. LOL! Should be fun!
