So who's going to be the first on here to get a pic of the new Tron monorails on the Epcot loop when they start running? As a Tron fan I think its a pretty neat idea.

See the link below:

Posting the official announcement photos in the thread for people who haven't been over to the Disney blog:

I love the solid blue one. It just looks plain sweet. :thumbsup2

I just hope they glow in the dark. That would freaking rock.

I will be there two weeks from this Saturday (for the day) so MAYBE I will be able to get a picture of it!! :goodvibes:3dglasses

Can't wait to see those!!!! I hope they look as good in person, as they do in these mock-ups.

I guess I will be the lone voice of dissent here. Not only do I think they're ugly, I think they're inappropriate for something that I would consider to be sacred (as far as WDW goes). I would expect to see this on the local mass transit system, not at WDW.

I know Disney cross-promotes its products, but save that for something more innocuous. What's next, having a big Miley Cyrus poster hanging from the top spire of Cinderella Castle or a big Wand stating "Jonas Brothers" above SpaceShip Earth?

As for Tron: Legacy itself, I'm betting there's fear that it will be a huge bust (which might have prompted this ad campaign). $300 million budget for a sequel to a twenty year old campy computer movie with only a cult following? I'm sure some executives are a little concerned about that...

Be careful, you might make this guy angry:

I agree.

I will be there this weekend, but I doubt that they are out yet.

As for the movie, the merits of the movie itself are not important in this society anymore. If they hype it enough, people will go to see it. Look at Avatar. It is a "decent" movie, but it certainly is not nearly as good as the money it has made. My wife and I like to refer to many in our society as "sheeple". They will do whatever the media and commercials tell them to do.

I can tell you that they are not running yet. I was at EPCOT today and they were converted yet. For those who have not looked close the pics posted on the Disney Blog are renditions, not an actual shot.

I hate to sound like one of those people that hates anything new, but I really am not liking this the more I look at it. Now all I see is a moving billboard. I REALLY REALLY hope that this isn't a test to see if guests respond well to this type of advertising.

I will say this.... I went to see Alice In Wonderland last night and I got to see the new Tron: Legacy trailer at the beginning. It looks a LOT better than the original. But I agree; I hope this is not something Disney does every time they want to push a new movie. I don't think it would be very cost efficient to redo the monorail each time, but here's hoping. I guess they figure a "futuristic" movie vehicle goes along with a futuristic transportation system? :confused3

I would be very surprised if it is actual paint. It will probably be some sort of stick on.

Good call. Lapse in thought process for me; chalk it up to no caffeine yet this morning! It's still 8:00 hour here! :lmao:

i think anything would be an improvement over those graffitti monorails -i hate them..the glow in the dark option would be freakin cool.
