I may have to purchase a new tripod. Are there any brands that people like better over the others?

I am looking for one that is fairly lite that will be easy to use around WDW.

I bought a Slik, it's carbon fiber and fairly compact. Runs a little under $300 for the legs, I just got a cheaper monfrotto ball head for now. It does everything I need it to do.

Manfrotto is probably the largest seller though.

with tripods there are three conciderations, cost, sturdyness, and weight. You get to pick two, and the third will fall where it will.

I purchsed a Benro Travel Angel primarly for use at WDW. It is quite compact and fairly sturdy for its size. Keep in mind you get what you pay for when it comes to tripods.

I currently own 3, a heavy duty like a rock Manfrotto, the Travel Angel, gorilla pod SLRZoom. Each has its own role. The Travel Angel is my goto pod, but the gorilla pod is getting more use in times I'm too lazy to carry a full tripod.

There is an older tripod thread that people brought up a great point. Lightweight and sturdy do not really go together.

I have the Velbon Luxi-L Velbon Luxi-L

I use it mostly at Disney, so lightweight, small fold-down size and height were all important to me (to shoot over heads at Wishes!).

It gets the job done. I was really happy for that last little extra bit of height on this sold out night at MVMCP!

Thanks for the advice shared with me so far.

I currently have a Manfrotto monopod, but it has been a while since I purchased a tripod. Hence my request for advice. I also have a small Gorillapod for my little P&S.

In addition to hearing about tripods people like, I would also appreciate hearing about tripods people don't like.

MOM2RTK: Fantastic shot of the Castle and fireworks.

I have the same Velbon Luxi-L Velbon Luxi-L, and I must have gotten a lemon, because on more than one occasion one of my legs would just collapse, and I have just about lost my camera to the ground :scared1:. I am know on the hunt for a new tripod as well for my trip to Washington D.C. I will keep this one and have my DH wrench down the legs for things at home and for travel I am going to try something new!

Great shot of Wishes!!!!!

I have two Benro carbon fiber tripods. I think they are very good for the money. One is the travel angel. While it is light, I trust my D300 with a 70-200 on it. It is rated at like 18lbs.

I will also put a plug in for a RRS ball head and clamp system. I had the manfroto head and had several times I was convinced the camera was in the head and it was not. There is no chance of a mistake with RRS. If you ever use it you will never use another one. It is however $$$.

I will not get on my soapbox like I do on some threads about tripods. I will only say that some will spend thousands on equipment and trust it on a $50 tripod. Think about it!

Well I just got confirmation that my new Manfrotto tripod and ball head are on there way to my house, and should be here by the end of the week:banana: I sure hope I like this tripod better than the last:rotfl2:.

Which one did you get Michelle?

I have a Velbon Sherpa 550r. I find it easy to haul about and have taken it all over. It is nice and sturdy and holds my 70-200mm F2.8, 1.4x teleconverter and camera without a problem. Here is a photo from the Poly beach using the 70-200 and 1.4 Teleconverter on the Sherpa.
