New Tony's experience starts booking tomorrow

We must be the exception to the rule because we love Tony's and go there every trip! My daughter actually ASKED to go to the "Lady and the Tramp" restaurant for our trip in August. So we were very excited about this and made our ADR this morning. We were gonna do dinner but I guess we're doing lunch instead... oh well :)

Even though I hate this trend of up charging and hate that I'm feeding into it. I gave over and booked it for a few reasons. I'm on the dining plan and will get an appetizer and parade viewing at no extra cost. Well, some extra cost because the tip will be larger with the package price. I have never been to Tony's and I am aware of the bad reviews, but I'd like to see for myself. I'd like to try every Disney restaurant at some point and this is a good time to knock it off my list. I do plan on asking for sauce on the side ONLY, so it won't completely ruin our meals if the sauce is as bad as I've read. My kids won't mind spaghetti and meatballs with butter and cheese instead of sauce. I plan to get the steak or shrimp scampi.

Question: was this viewing area "right in front of the flagpole" previously reserved?

You can see them near Columbia Harbour house for nothing And It is not as crowded as anywhere else.

I have eaten at Tony's once about 10 years ago. I agree it wasn't the best meal by far but I can't remember it being terrible either but I love Coral Reef too so might be the exception too. My sister is only joining us for 4 nights of my 8 nights there and the parade is on the top of her list since she has loved it since Disneyland days. This way I don't have to wait around for it and she gets to see it. I booked for the latest lunch sitting I could find which was 2:45 and the afternoon parade is starting at 3. Hoping we can see from there and not have to sit out side waiting to watch that one also.

I don't understand the Tony's hate-train, my meals there have been tasty but nothing special, the service was always very good, and the atmosphere is quite charming. Fine with me tho, just means I can always get a table when I want one.
HOWEVER, I'm not a fan of any dining package that offers reserved seating to a parade or show. I understand those who see value in it, but it's all just consumer programming as far as I'm concerned: train the consumer to want a premium experience, and they'll probably pay even more for something like it in the future. I'll have a corn dog and a pop while I wait an hour for the parade, thank you.

Your right it is about the premium experience and the people walking by and saying wow, why are those people in an exclusive sections? I wouldn't have done it though unless on the DDP because its a great value of TS.

The main problem with this package is that you have to eat at Tony's. I'd rather pay $45/person to NOT eat at Tony's.

Tony's has really gone down hill. The food and service is at best sub-par. Wish they would bring back breakfast.

I've never been to Tony's but now half tempted to go, to see how bad the food really is...

Although for the price I might just keep on wondering lol
Dont do it, the food is just plane horrible, like opening a jar of chef boy r dee!!

Is the location also good to stay and watch Wishes?
Meh, not really. It may be fine if you've seen it before but it's not what I would consider good. Plus, you wouldn't be able to see Celebrate the Magic very well.

People dis Tony's yet rave about places like LTT which to me is bland blech! For some people food with some spices for flavor means it has salt and pepper! IOW's, everyone has their likes and dislikes. Every single Disney restaurant has mixed reviews to an extent with some loving and some hating. Tony's is fine for us. Nothing great but a good fun meal every time. That said, I'm tired of the dinner packages in order to get a decent view of various parades and other shows. Everyone buying a high priced ticket to a park should be able to see the show with a decent view without having to pay more.

I'll never eat at Tony's again, even if they introduce a package whereby you can sit down and eat with the character of your choice or offer all day FP's with the meal.
My husband is wheat intolerant and had loved the way Disney went out of the way to accommodate his dining experience. As was usual, a chef came to his table, talked him through his options and he placed an order. Imagine his delight when one of the servers brought out garlic bread pronouncing it gluten free. Imagine now his horror when 5 minutes later she returned to our table apologising and advising that the bread was not in fact gluten fee after all. Luckily it's only a mild intolerance rather than full on coeliac but he still had a very uncomfortable evening.

Question: was this viewing area "right in front of the flagpole" previously reserved?

It was a FastPass viewing area in 2015. Before that, it was open. Just like the areas that are now reserved for the Wishes Fireworks Dessert party.

It'a a bit far back to watch Remember the Magic, and you definitely don't want the flagpole in your sightline, but other than that it's okay, though not a premium location. It's good for being able to exit the park immediately after Wishes.
