Hi i am a single mum who is about to book the holiday of a lifetime for myself and my 3 children aged 10, 8 and 6.

I am in a position to book a holiday for december this year, looking at staying at the grand floridian or onsite, but as its a once in a lifetime trip want to push the boat out, but also save pennys.

Have looked at virgin and first choice, not much difference,

also not scared of booking a diy package, but not sure where to start.

Also dining, i guess free dining is not on offer for the 1st 2 weeks in december, if i delay till the offer starts in Jan, will it be a huge saving or not, and is it still magical to go in Jan, still want the fireworks, floats etc.

My mind is spinning at the moment and I need all the help I can get.

Thanks.

:welcome: to The DIS!

That your time to read and look into it a bit more. There are lots of hotels to choose from and they all have a different theme. Take some time and see which one you like the look of most. They are all nice is their own way.

Are you going to be hiring a car? If not and you plan on eating onsite the whole time you will need to think about restaurant reservations (ADRs) as some of the best TS restaurants get booked up 6 mths in advance.

The parades and fireworks are year round. Obviously the Xmas decorations come down early January normally 3rd or 4th.

And as Kevin said take some time and don't be scared to look at DIY. If this is a once in a lifetime trip take some time to research it properly so you get the maximum out of your trip and planning is have the fun :goodvibes

Welcome,:cheer2:

Just wanted to say hi and do not panic, the information you can get on here is amazing.

One thing I was thinking is do you have to go this December?

For our first trip this year I booked a year out, this gave me time to find out loads of helpful tips from the guys on the board.

It also gave me time to book with free dining and gave me plenty of time to book the ADR's. The restaurants can be booked up to 180 days out and I would think in December alot of these will be booked up now.

We also booked and stayed on disney at Saratoga Springs, this is brilliant. We had 42% discount and free dining (only certain months you can get the discount). They are classed as "villas" which means you get more space. You get a kitchen with fridge/freezer and washer/dryer which with three children might come in handy. In a way it is a home from home type of place.

The experts will be along soon, but any other queries just ask :goodvibes:goodvibes

PS Meant to say even though it was our first visit, after looking at costs it saved us a fortune doing DIY, we booked flights with first choice and direct with disney for hotel/parks/meals.

Welcome. You'll have a ball and can I echo Kevin's thoughts. Ask away. There are loads of people here (can I bow down to the venerable Wayne G :worship:) with oodles of experience, and planning is fantastic fun. :goodvibes DIY is the best way. :thumbsup2

You will love GF - it is an amazing hotel.

We have gone with www.disneyworld.co.uk for the accommodation and then booked the flights Virgin atlantic direct. It is cheaper than going with a tour operator.

Apparently January is a good time to go as most people want to go in December for the Christmas lights and parades.

Would recommend getting "a Brits Guide to Orlando" book as it has a lot of info. How long are you going for?

Welcome to DISboards :welcome:

Lots of advice already :goodvibes

If you have an idea of what you are wanting to do and have prices maybe best way to go is post all the details, dates, departure airport, alternative dates & prices you have already. Then we can look and see if there are better options.
