New to this thread and was wondering for some recent reviews of places to stay around DL. It has been many, many years since I have gone and I have always stayed with family, but this is going to be my DD's #10 and I want to do something more than "staying with family".

I looked at the reviews on the this DL DIS thread area, but the hotel reviews are all really old. I have looked on TripAdvisor and I am so confused. I don't want to spend 'an arm and a leg' but since we would be going alone I would need something clean and close or with good transportation!!

I'm going to Disneyland in September and staying at the Howard Johnson on a friend's recommendation. She stayed there in June and said the place was clean and had very nice landscaping. She did say that rooms could be semi noisy if you stay on the freeway side of some of the buildings but the staff is very helpful if it's a problem. You can get a room for half price if you have an Entertainment Book but the rates on their own are still very good if you just want to book through an agent or Disney.

Let's see...I was told it's a 10 minute walk to the park entrance but they have a great bus service. They had free refrigerators in the room and there are several restaurants close by that my friend said were great for breakfast.

Hope that helps. My friend is pretty picky about hotels so I'm trusting her 100% on this one.

The hotels with high marks in this board are usually the HoJo (already mentioned above), the Candy Cane Inn, Tropicana and Carousel (both directly across the street from the DL entrance).

The HoJo gets high marks for lush grounds and great pools. The CCI has a dedicated shuttle and better than most continental breakfast. The other two get comments on cleanliness and closeness.

Good luck with your decision!

Yes I agree with the above posters Howard Johnson is a great hotel if you don't mind the walk. It's a little long after spending the whole day in the park but it's not that bad and most people don't complain about it. You can get great rates with the entertainment book. I stay here every trip I take to DL.
Another one that I've heard good things about it Bestwestern Park Place Inn which is directly across the street. It's the first hotel from the park, an easy minute walk. They don't have a great pool but the rates are good and I've heard they're clean. But I haven't stayed there before so I'm not speaking from experience.

Everyones expectations are different, we have stayed at the Carousel and Tropicana and both were different. We would stay at either again but prefered the Carousel Inn, we have had friends who stayed at the Candy Cane and hated it but there are others here who will stay at no other. HoJos has pretty consistent good reviews and BW Park Place Inn has good reviews also.

Best Western Park Place Inn across the street/free breakfast. Desert Inn and Suites also free breakfast.
