New to this forum: First trip in WC, advise please!

I need any an all advise that people can offer. I recently had surgery, 2 1/2 weeks ago and am only allowed to walk short distance, so my Dr wants me in a wheelchair for our trip next week, understandably so. So I'm thinking that I will be walking onto the busses/monorail and just holding onto my WC, is this usually a problem? Has anyone done this? I am nervous about all this. I'm probably going to be pushing my own WC since it's me DH and our 3 kids (10 and under). I think the last time I was there I noticed a special tag on the WC's, do I get that from guest relations or do I even need anything? What rides do you recommend? (I can't have anything that jerks you around) I still want to be able to have fun with my kids too. Any advice that anyone can offer at all would be greatly helpful, we are leaving in week (next sat, in the middle of the night) and staying at BLT. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm sure you'll get great advice here. Some may encourage you to get an ECV instead of a manual w/c. It would give you a break from wheeling yourself. But the temptation to sit a child on your lap on the ECV is great. This is very dangerous. Will you need a stroller? How able are the children to help out with pushing you or a stroller? There are great stickies at the top of this Forum that answer many questions. Some of the rides have disclaimers that state if you have neck, back etc problems to avoid them. Look into the child swap option. Your Dh can ride with one child and then swap for another without going through the line again. I'm sorry I have to cut this short but others will be along.

It costs more, but I think it will be a happier and better trip.

You're looking at $50/day with a Disney park scooter rental or $25 to $30/day from an outside rental company.

The company will deliver it to your Disney resort. For the outside scooter rental companies you will have to get the scooter to the park. This can be done by car (travel scooter fits in most car trunks) or by Disney transportation. You will also be responsible for charging the battery each night which is not hard. The toughest part with a scooter is getting it on and off the bus., but you'll get the hang of it.

You will be able to go faster with the scooter and it will be easier for all concerned. You can take them through ride lines.

You can practice for free with scooters at your local stores like WalMart, Target, etc.
