Hi!
We are about to book our first cruise for January 06' and I have found this board to be VERY helpful. Thank you to all!
I have a quick question about food. Her's a shot in the dark....but has anyone ever ordered kosher meals on the cruise? How do they work? Is there a selection? How is the taste? Also, what do you do on Castaway Cay? Do they have kosher food there too?

Thanks in advance!

There isn't anything on the menu that is kosher per say as DCL doesn't prepare foods to be kosher and doesn't use kosher ingredients. You of course can ask that any item be modified so that it adheres to kosher guidelines, but it won't be kosher per say. You can let DCL know in advance that you wish to have kosher meals and they will order some for you. I believe they are pre-packaged frozen types, so not nearly as good as trying to adapt an existing dish. On Castaway Cay, kosher is going to be hard to find. There are BBQ ribs (pork so out), chicken, hamburgers (both with and without cheese so the without might work), you get the picture. A traditional BBQ. The salad is Caesar so with the cheese and I can't remember if there is bacon, wouldn't work either. DCL will make accomdations for you if you notify them in advance, but if you want true kosher meals, they will be the frozen kind.

We are three families cruising this January, on the Jan 21 Wonder. My guess is we won't be alone since that week and/or prior week are big yeshiva vacation weeks. I haven't done it before but got good advice from Sonney, who has (she's at Sonneyt@yahoo.com, and responded to a recent post--you can search kosher cruise and you'll find it.) I was told that they have kosher food on Castaway Cay (hamburgers). also that they sometimes run out--make sure you all put kosher on the reservation--you can always eat regular meals even if you put kosher, but we need to all put down kosher or there won't be enough.

I've heard it's better than airplane food. We have some who will only eat kosher meals, others who will eat foil wrapped fish and others who will eat vegetarian. We may wind up eating alot of fruit and ice cream! I'm bringing some tradition soup--it's bulky but light--not very nutritious but for a few days my kids will survive... I wonder if we bring a skillet whether they will make eggs and pancakes for us in our own skillet (even our more lenient folks won't eat if same pan is being used for meat!)--if anyone out there knows the answer...

This is the list we have from our Disney travel agent area

You do have to put it in your reservation that you need kosher foods so that they have enough for your family onboard the ship.
