Hi everyone, I am thinking about learning how to scrapbook. Yes, I am completely new and have no idea where to begin. What type of supplies should I start out with. I am most interest in Disney. I will be at WDW in Sept. and am wondering if there are special supplies that I should purchase while there.

Any help for the newbie kid on the block to scrapbooking would be appreciate!

TIA :goodvibes

Hello! Welcome to the scrapbooking board! When you are in WDW - be careful not to buy too much. I usually buy the year specific stuff and postcards too. Postcards are great because they are wonderful pictures and inexpensive! Make sure to save your maps and schedules from the parks -and grab a few extra so that you can have one from each park to put in your albums.

In terms of supplies - you should invest in a small cutter to cut your pictures, good scissors, and good adhesive. If you really get into it - and if you are like the rest of us - you will get addicted - you can buy more intricate tools and machines :)

I also recommend Creative Memories albums and supplies. You can go www.creativememories.com and find a consultant in your area. Going to a crop can also help you get started!

Also - if you are just starting out - you might want to check out digital scrapbooking - no mess and beautiful pages.

Have you checked out the virtual scrapbook at the top of this forum? Here's the link:

There are lots of great pages there to give you ideas.

As for supplies, I think the basics are:

-a paper trimmer for cutting your photos and paper
-good scissors
-adhesive...there are lots of choices out there. I like Zig glue pens and the ATG 714 tape gun
-colored cardstock in whatever size you want to scrap (I like 12 x 12)
-archival quality pens for journaling

To me, that's the basic list. Then there are SO many other things you can use....punches, eyelets, die cut systems, glitter, stickers.....the list is endless. I started scrapping in January 2007 with one package of colored cardstock, one package of patterned paper, some stickers, and photo mounting squares, and that's it. I still do relatively simple pages, but I use the Cricut diecut machine for my letters and some of my embellishments.

I don't think that Disney World has a particularly great assortment of scrapping stuff. I used very little of what I bought there last year and my trip album is more than 50 pages. I would suggest concentrating on great photos and mementos to bring back with you more than the supplies that they sell.

First of all, welcome MsDisney23. I have read many of your threads on the Comm Bd, and it's nice to see you here. How is your health?
DisneyBaby and Kim have given you some excellent advice on which supplies are the most needed - anything else is really your choice. How about checking out a local craft store, taking one of their classes, and seeing if scrapping is enjoyable. I find it a great stress reliever, and can sit for hours -just getting layouts done, and having a great time.
There are some wonderful people I have met through this board - very helpful, and just plain nice!
Please stop in more often and happy scrapping.:)

btt so that some of these other great scrappers have a chance to meet you too.:)
