new to OKW need info

We will be traveling to the OKW resort in December but not as vacation club members. We requested buildings 62,63,or64 because we are traveling with an elderly person and my brother who has a chronic disease. I understand these buildings have elevators, but do they have the second bathroom door through the laundry room? My brother requires quick access to a bathroom and will feel funny about entering our bedrooms to get there. He doesn't sleep well so he will be in the living on the sleep sofa. has anyone stayed in these buildings? Do they have a second bathroom door?
I could also use any info anyone has about the resort. I know you guys are pro!! Thanks.

I've not personally been in a 1BR or 2BR in the new buildings, but my understanding was that they were built to the same floor plan as the Phase II buildings, which had the second entrance to the bathroom via the laundry.

You actually have better options than requesting just those 3 buildings, if your main requirement is no steps and a second door. For example, you could ask for ground floor based on medical reasons and then any of the Phase II building numbers (and I'll bet Doc can tell you which number the Phase II buildings started with), this would open a lot more options and make it more likely that you'll get what you want.

Not sure what sort of additional info about OKW would be useful.

All of the buildings above #30 have 1BR's with the 2nd access to the bathroom. This includes the new buildings (62,63,64)

As Firefighter Mickey mentioned, a better plan may be to request a villa with no entry steps in buildings 30 and above. That will cover the access issue and the bath entry and will certainly help getting your request.

I'd call and make the request ASAP to further facilitate the process.

Since you have medical reasons for your request, please call Disney and ask that you be put in touch with Special Services. This is the division that handles medical conditions.

They will note specifically what you must have, and that would eliminate any element of chance in getting what you need.

You shouldn't need to use WDW Resort Special Services if all you need is first floor and one of the Phase II buildings. If you ask for first floor or building with elevator for "MEDICAL REASONS" (make sure to use that wording), you shouldn't have any problems. We have been told they do not guarantee first floor rooms unless you request an actual handicapped accessible room, but they assign the ones with medical needs before any general requests for first floor are assigned.

We took our 88 yr old aunt ot OKW on 7/22/01 and specifically aked for 1st floor---my reservation was marked FOR MEDICAL REAONS---Booked in March and guess what? When we got there (we arrived about 4:00 pm) there were none available!!!!! I was quite shocked at this since they have always been accomodating for my regular requests in the past. Thank God my Aunt is in good shape and was perfectly able to climb to the third floor---I was actually amazed at her physical fitness, so it worked our OK. We have been members since 94 and have never requested anything for medical reasons, and look what happened.....So whateer you do (I don't know exactly what), try to get a definate from someone.......We used Member Services. Lots of luck.
