Being brand new to multiple UY, I have a couple of questions regarding transfers, should we need to in the future.

1. Is the one transfer in or out per year based on UY or calendar year? Not a huge deal, but will help to know for planning purposes and timing of the banking windows.

2. We have 4 contracts and 2 UY, 3 FEB, 1 JUN. Am I right to assume that would mean we can only transfer once out of the one UY into the other?

3. I know you have to call to transfer, and that they won’t show in our DVC account online, but if we book online will it pull those transferred points for a reservation, or can you only make a reservation with transferred points by calling MS?

4. Based on how we plan to use these different UY, I foresee us having excess points every other year in one of the contracts, until the kids get older and we move into 2BR’s. Are there any pros/cons to transferring to the other contract for a single reservation vs booking 2 back to back reservations in the same resort/category and linking the reservations? I guess we are concerned how successful that would be to prevent having to move rooms. We take a lot of stuff, medical equipment etc., and heavily use the kitchen, so the idea of moving is pretty dreadful for us. But we’d risk it if there are problems with transfers that we haven’t considered.

I’m sure I’ll have others, but those are the main ones I can think of right now. Thanks for any help!

It’s based on UY and when the points transfer, they retain all their own rules.

You will not be able to transfer points once you have banked them. However, you can bank after they are transferred.

MS tends to allow owners to have more than one transfer between their own accounts. It’s not guaranteed but seems to be the new policy.

Points do show up online now. They will be used after any of the points from that membership that are banked or borrowed.

So, once you move them, you can book with them online.

I prefer to just book trips on each and link. However, most of the time, we use each for different times and trips so it doesn’t happen very often we use for the same trip.

That’s great to hear that transferred points now show up in our account and can be used to book online. It’s also good news to know they might let us transfer more than once per year, although I don’t foresee us needing to do so. Our intent is to use it like you mentioned, separately from our FEB points, but it was a loaded contract so we have some banked points to use before they expire next May, so it kind of alters how we intend to use them, at least initially. We also have 7 points to use in our FEB contracts that we may not be able to while we use up the banked points from this new contract unless we transfer those 7 points.

Also, since we will be using this in alternating years, mostly in the fall, from our PVB FEB points, we might have some excess points every other year until we start booking larger rooms. But hey, excess points and how to manage them is a great problem to have.

Thanks again for the info!

We have 2 UYs. we travel twice a year for different events and have never tried to combine our points. From what I have read, you can at 7 months. As noted above, once banked, they cannot be combined.

Just to clarify, you can not combine at 7 months for a single reservation without the transfer first when it’s two different memberships.

Bur once that is done, then points from different home resorts can be used together.

True, I left out that step.

So let me use my current situation as an example to make sure I fully understand. I have 7 Feb 2021 points. I call MS and ask them to transfer them to my Jun UY (200 points), then bank them now, but no later than Sep 30th (Feb UY banking deadline). Sept 26th opens the 7 month window for our April 26, 2022 trip. I make a new reservation, or modify our existing reservation if all the dates are available for that date using the Jun UY. It will pull Jun UY 2020 banked and 2022 borrowed points (which we don’t have) from the Jun UY contract, then the 7 transferred and banked Feb 2021 points (banked because an April 26th trip would be in the Feb 2022 UY), then the Jun 2021 UY points. The reservation is 254 points, we have 174 banked, 200 2021, and the 7 transferred. It would use the 174 Jun 2020 banked, 7 Feb 2021 transferred and banked, and 73 Jun 2021 points, leaving us 127 points to bank into Jun 2022, leaving us then 327 points (200 2022 and 127 banked 2021) to use for our fall 2022 trip. I know that isn’t terribly easy to follow, but if you were able to, is that correct?

Assuming that’s correct, now that transferred points show online in the new UY, can I bank them online, or does MS have to manually bank the points once transferred?

Like I said before, this isn’t how we intend to use it long term, but just to use up the excess points the contract came with when we bought it, and also to not lose points from our existing contracts while we use up those excess points. And again, thank you for taking the time to help educate me on the finer nuances of DVC point management!

If you are wanting too do an internal transfer from your own membership into another of your own Memberships, in the past, Members Services has allowed the transfer(s) to be done without regard to the usually restriction. This is NOT a written policy, but a courtesy extended to DVC Members under this circumstance. I have done it many times over the years when making personal reservations and expect it is an easy courtesy for MS to make. At one time, we had four different memberships/use years with 2 different resorts and always had to call MS use points from multiple memberships. We have now downsized to two Memberships 1 resort and can do most transactions online without the need to call.

6 of one, half-dozen of the other. MS will link such reservations seamlessly together so you will not need to move.

Enjoy! :)

Unless/until we can make transfers online and no longer need to call, I would just have MS bank the transferred points while making the transfer. If they are truly accessible online to make reservations using the transferred points (I have never used that function) then you should be able to bank them online or use them to make a reservation.

Enjoy! :)
