New to DVC...When can I make my reservations?

I hope this is the right place to ask...my dh and I just bought into BLT today. Our guide said the paperwork should be here within a week. I also opted for the 5 nights free stay at any 1 br villas instead of the matching developers point since Saratoga Springs does not appeal to us. We already have a trip booked (this is before buying DVC) for August 2nd-12th..and plan on using the free 5 nights during the last 5 nights of our stay..... so when can I make our reservations for those 5 free nights? I believe our guide said.."7 months out"...so does that mean I can make August reservation in January? or is it February? Sorry if this seem like a stupid question.

Also, do I have to wait for my paperwork to arrive, signed and returned before I can make the reservations?

Are you checking out on the 12th? If so, you can call on January 7 (tomorrow) and book those 5 nights. Not sure if you have to have been through closing first or not. You'd have to ask MS that question when you call.

Currents booking window rules are 7 months from your check in date, and you can book for 7 nights with your first call. So if you were in the system, you could have called on January 2nd.

The old rules were from your check out day.
