I am hoping there are a few kind souls who can help me wrap my head around this:love: OK- we are buying a resale contract right now. Just call me the "Queen of Getting Ahead of Myself"- but i want to make sure I understand completely how to use my points when I get them.

If everything goes as planned we will close in Mid april meaning I should be able to book a reservation in the beg. of May if not a little sooner. We know we want to go to Orlando in September- but we may not get our first choice of accomodations at the 4 month mark- is it possible to make a ressie for anything that is available, and then wait list for our preferred choice? Or do we have to cancel an existing ressie to change? Can you wait list at more than one place?
Thanks!

OK, so you are purchasing a 40 point contract.

There are 3 DISTINCLY DIFFERENT 40 point blocks you are referring to.

1) Dec 1st, 2005, 40 points, which were banked during that use year. They are available for reservations ONLY THRU 11/31/2007. You must check out by that date and use all 40 points, otherwise unused points will expire.

2) Dec 1st, 2006, 40 points, which are currently available and, if you do not intend to make reservations for at least half of those points, with a checkout date no later than 11/31/2007, you should bank them by 5/1/2007, if you bank these point, whatever amount of points you bank WILL NOT be available for use until check in dates AFTER 12/01/07. If you do not bank any other them you can use them until 11/31/2007. If unbanked and unused by that date they will expire 11/31/2007.

3)Dec 1st, 2007, 40 points, which will normally become available for reservations 11 or 7 months prior to that date (depending on home resort or otherwise). You can however borrow these points into your current use year, making them available for reservations through 11/31/2007. One caveat, if you do borrow them into this use year, and for some reason change plans those 40 points go into holding and are only good for reservations 60 days prior to your stay, and will also expire 11/31/2007 IF BORROWED into that use year.

So, to answer your questions, you can use the banked points for the stay in Sept. You can use 40 points for a stay in Dec (12/01/2007 points), and if need be you can borrow the points from 12/01/2008 into the prior year if you need to (this will effectively strip your contract of any points availabilty until 12/1/2009, but you can borrow 11 or 7 months prior, and you can possible purchase points from other members to be tranferred into your account (generally @ $10/point)

I hope that ebverything is correct, but if not, anyone else can correct me.

If you have eny other questions just attach them to this thread and I am sure they will be answered

By the way.... WELCOME HOME!

LOL.. I answered your first question in detail.. but it looks like you figured it out!

I do think you can reserve what is available and waitlist your first choice. I have never waitlisted myself and do not know if you can waitlist multiple resorts. Others will chime in I am sure.

They ONLY go into holding account if you cancel within 31 days of your arrival day. The caveat about borrowing is , it is irreversible . If you cancel the trip you can not put the points " Back " into the 2007 U/Y. They will expire last day of Nov.

You have until the last business day of May for 100% of the points.

Yes you can waitlist for multiple locations and room sizes. I did this at Christmas for New Year's Eve and Jan 1-3. I had them call me to confirm so I could cancel and rebook using the original points as I was already in a borrowing mode and wanted to make certain those points got used first. I was on waitlists for any studio or 1 BR at any resort for that time period. I had a 2 BR reserved and then some of the family decided not to join me. I was very fortunate and got all the days in a studio just a few weeks out. We now have 33 points to use by Aug 1 which I hope to do in March or April if there is availability once we finally decide when we want to go visit some friends who live near Bradenton. Otherwise I may have to put them up for rent as our next trip is not until Sept. and they can't be banked since they were originally borrowed. Good luck with your purchase and hope you have a great trip once you get it booked.

thanks everyone here is great. What we want to do is use 80 points for our trip in Sept. We will probably book a 1br at OKW or SSR for 4 or 5 nights, but we would take a studio- although we would like to try to stay at BCV or BWV because of those locations (near Epcott and MGM). But we would just die if we could get something at AKV (hence the waitlist idea) I would seriously stay in a broom cupboard in that resort- but DH is sensible. We went to Boma on our first night last year and I just fell in love. It was nighttime so I didn't even get to see the animals! But as it will be BRAND NEW this Sept. I think I am really dreamin' even thinking about staying there when it isn't our home resort! BUt it is the Year of a million dreams! Anyway we will be really pleased with any of the resorts.

I was wondering about your comment about not seeing the animals because it was night time. When we stayed at AKL, I loved to go out on the balcony in the middle of the night to watch what the animals were up to! The Ankoli cattle slept right outside our balcony, and the giraffe was nearby all night too, as was one of the zebra.
