I have my first trip using my dvc in April and had some questions!

I have not received the newest perk books ( the one they gave me at signing expired in December ) so I was not sure if they have not sent them out or if that is something you can pick up at your resort when you arrive???

Also I am not sure how to purchase my tickets for this trip. I know we only get a discount on the AP but if I know for a fact that we will not be returning until the end of next year then the AP pass really does not seem cost effective for us. Would it make more sense to buy 10 tickets with no expiration on them? We are only planning on being in the parks 4 days for this trip so that would leave us with 6 days?? Help! Just want to make sure I am making a good decision before I purchase them!

Thank you in advance!

They will have the Perks booklet for you at check-in Idon't know if they mail them or if they are given to you in packet when you first join DVC.

it just depends on how the math works out for you. i still have a couple of days left on a no-expire hopper from 2005 myself. most folks that buy the MYW tickets get them from undercovertourist or mapleleaftickets.

Generally, If you go to the parks MORE than 13 days a calendar year an AP is worth it, especially with the DVC discount.
It just so happens I had done the math for our family for our 11 day May 09 trip the other day.
The only difference is we will be back in Dec of 09 for 2 weeks, so the AP works out better at about 20 "park" days, and we hop a lot!!
We are a family of 4, one child ticket.
For us, that would be 8 - 10day (4@20 days) MYW with PH and w/out "No Ex" = $2370.
The AP wins out at $1540! :thumbsup2

I hope this comes out clear as mud, so here goes.....

This is assuming you want PH passes, but it at least resembles an apples to apples comparison.

4 seasons passes with DVC discount = $1540 tax inc.
4 - 10 day MYW tickets with PH and WITH No Exp. = $2037 tax inc (w/o going to a broker)
(and remember that 8 - 10day MYW with PH and w/o No Ex = $2370, we save $830!!!)
You save $497 with the SP.

Now, if you had 6 days left over from the 10 day, you would save buying a 6 day ticket next time.

4 - 6 day MYW passes with PH only, w/o exp option = you save $1134 with tax.

Never mind the saving if you only used 4 days that time and had 2 left over for your next trip.

Although you saved about $500 with the AP, you end up buying $1134 worth next time you are down.
IF the ticket prices remain the same.

We used our 10 day no exp tickets from 06(5 days left) and 07(2 days) in Dec 08, and still have 4 Water parks and more days left over from the 06's, so wont be buying them in May or Dec, and a park day on the 07's.
If you go back every year for a week and buy 10 day MYW noX, then every 3rd year is a "free tix year", if not a day or 2 more the next year, depending on flight times if applicable.
Sort of like DVC, paying in advance for your vacation, but you can BANK these "points" forever, and only use them when needed.

Or at least until Disney cancels it, or changes it, due to "guest demand" ;)

We stock up on the 10 day NoX when needed.

Just sayin'..........

I just got back from Disneyland and they didn't have a new perks book printed..so..you may want to print it out off the website. They did give me the old one and I don't think anything had changed as everywhere I went the DVC card was easily used for 10% off..several times I was even asked if I was an AP holder and when I said DVC they said "that'll work".
Have fun!
