Hi - I am new to the board and would like to get some information on Renting From a DVC member.

We have visited Disney numerous times and would like to buy into the DVC, but would like to give it a "test run" by renting first.

Can someone please fill me in on the process, things renters are allowed to do compared to owners, etc.

Any and all information would be great.

We currently have ressies for March *-* but would like to rent from a DVC member instead.

Thanks in advance

Read the stickies, then come back if you have questions. Renters are not supposed to get some DVC perks (pool hopping, discounts) - but often are able to take advantage of some of them anyway, you can get ME and the Dining Plan and with the exception of the perks, should get treated like a member.

You are fairly close to your trip to have a lot of choice in DVC reservations - DVC tends to book to capacity, with most members making plans by six months out.

Good luck finding a ressie for your time frame. It might be difficult, but if you aren't particular about which resort, I think it's possible. Also, it might be more possible if you are willing to stay in a 1 bedroom, since they are usually the last to book up.

to simplify, you go to the link in the top right-hand corner for "DVC Point Charts" to figure out how many points your reservation at a given resort would require. then you go to the rent/trade board (and review the FAQs there) to find a DVC owner to rent a reservation from (also called "renting points.")

be aware that you are renting from an individual - cancellation policies may or may not be an option...full payment may be required immediately in some cases. also, the DVC owner will retain full control over the reservation until you check-in...you are not allowed to call member services to confirm the reservation, so it does take a lot of trust.

technically, renters only get the benefits of staying onsite (DME and DDP are options that the DVC owner can set up for you - you also qualify for EMH and those types of onsite perks. sometimes as a renter, your room card will still say "DVC member", but to get restaurant or other DVC-specific discounts, you may be required to show your actual DVC membership card.

(DVC owners can book at their home resorts at 11 months out and at any DVC resort at 7 months out...at 4 or 5 months out, there may still be availability but during some periods of the year, renting is much tougher to book on such relatively short notice.)

here are some threads you can read to learn more about renting:

Being new to the DIS you might it might be hard to find a owner who wants to rent to a newbie. You can't even receive a personal message until after you have 10 posts.

Good luck. :santa:

Just a mod note - the OP has been edited to remove specific date information, so as not to be construed as a "Reservation Wanted" post, which would need to be posted on the R/T Board.
