Hello all! I'm both new to the boards and (fairly) new to DSLR!

I've had a Nikon D80 since this past fall and am trying to not only become familiar with all of the settings/features, but also with basic manual photography concepts.

Does anyone have a link to tutorials regarding exposure, aperature, white-balance, etc? I think that I have a basic understanding, however I guess I'm looking for the "feel". For instance, how can I judge what exposure, aperature, or white-balance should be set? Is it just trial-and-error until the "feel" is developed?

We're heading to the MK in June and I hope to be able to compose and snap some memorable shots of the family.

Thanks!

David

Try Bryan Peterson's book "Understanding Exposure". It is a favorite of this board as well as many other photo boards around the net.

P.S. aperture only has one "A" in it. Sorry, seeing it spelled incorrectly is a pet peeve of mine.

Thanks for the correction, obviously I'm new, hehehe!

ukcatfan - Are you from KY, so just a UK fan? I live in Louisville, and while we may have our differences (I'm a Cards fan) at least we have Disney and our cameras! Good hire in Calipari (sp?).

I grew up in Ashland, went to college in Lexington (obviously), and then lived in Louisville for four years b4 moving to SWFL. I just so happened to marry a Card!!! The new coach should bring some good rivalries at home the next few years.
