Hello. I am new to the DIS board. We have just scheduled our first WDW vacation . We are going in October over fall break. We will be staying at POP. Any suggestions on dining with DP? My kids are soooo excited, me too!!!
Any other specials out there that I should know about. Thanks.

Welcome! There is so much info here on the DIS! You will learn tons of great tips and info. Be sure to check out the dining section here. There is a great thread with pics of the food, restaurants etc.

Thanks. I was just visiting the dining forum. WOW. A little bit of confusion on the DDP but seems to be pretty straight forward (now that I read their discussions! ) Thanks for the tips.

First of all, Welcome to the DIS!

As for specials, WDW is getting tighter and tighter on these. The Free Dining plan has shorter dates this year, they aren't offering as many discounts off rack rate, and value season has shrunk to include less of the times we can actually go. We're still going, but we're paying more this year.

We just took our first WDW trip a couple of months ago and when I was doing my research I found this site. WOW, what a relief it was. It was a great help with everything, especially the dining!! The reviews, pics and posts on the dining thread is great!! Good luck and have fun!

Make your ADRs now. If you can do a rough outline of your days, it is pretty easy to narrow down a few TS restaurants that you might enjoy depending on where you plan to be. I would definitely include a few character meals. (I was going to say "for the kids", but they are fun for adults, too!)

If you like books, I appreciated the info the Unofficial Guide to WDW, esp. on touring. And my DD liked Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids, by Kids - it is a fun way to prepare for WDW with fun tips and facts, word puzzles, etc.

Welcome to the Dis!!! Character meals are a great way to get autographs/pics and meet characters..and nice buffets too. I have read if you get a late breakfast seating, it can serve as brunch to hold you 'til dinner and you can get a lot of interaction w/characters.

To save your sanity, book your ADRs at parks you plan to be at so you can avoid commuting all over and save your schedule from becoming a slave to ADRs.

During this special travel time, your family can dance and sing with Playhouse Disney in Concert presented by HUGGIES and PULL-UPS. Playhouse Disney favorites - The Doodlebops, Johnny and the Sprites and Dan Zanes - are just a few of the acts scheduled to appear. There will also be special Disney entertainment created just for you and your little one.

Your kids may enjoy Fantasyland w/no lines and playing with the characters and going on rides with the characters as well!

Congratulations on your first trip to Disney - If I may, I would suggest Chef Mickey and Breakfast at the Castle. My kids truly loved these and we make it a must everytime we visit.
