New to Crusing

We are traveling with another family. Can we request to be at same dinning table when we get to the port?

You sure can! Or, if you want, just give Disney a call and they will fix you right up. That's what we do, it is easier on Disney that way, and it checks one more "worry" off your list.

You do have a list? Half of the fun us the planning and anticipation.

No list. What types of things should be on the planning list?

You can do this online, BUT, I'm not sure I recommend it if you have other things booked that they won't be attending with you. We just had some friends go on the same cruise we did (didn't really plan it together) and planned on eating together. She linked her account to mine in order to get dining together. That in turn added them to our Cabana reservation for some reason (even though they were specifically ghosted out in the cabana reservation), and I was in turn charged for them as they put us over the limit, and their name was on our cabana sign. They did take them off, but it was an annoyance that I would've rather not dealt with to be honest.

Oh wow

So if I book an excursion, there is a chance they will be added as well?
Usually, when you book excursions, there is a prompt asking who you want to include in the reservation. If you have linked reservations (and all rooms have at least the same booking window) , all names will be listed and you check off which people you want on the reservation.

Yup this is how it's SUPPOSED to work, but for whatever reason they just assumed the others would be with us I guess, because they definitely weren't checked off!

I think you said that you linked after the initial reservation, right? I'm guessing they just assumed you wanted to put everyone on the already existing reservation. I know, not a smart move, but I think that's what happened.

If the link is made prior to booking excursions, you'll get a list to check off who you want to include.

I learned that linking reservations might be easier to manage them in the short run, but it caused a world of problems for me and a client for our next cruise. lol

I booked my clients cruise in August last year and they wanted Main dining. I booked our cruise onboard last September and chose late dining for us.
Well, last month I linked them to make it easier to access their reservation for changes, online checkin and excursions etc. not even thinking it would be an issue. However, I should have just left it alone and not been so lazy. LOL
First, DCL switched our dining to Main and I switched it back to second. Then they changed my clients to Second and I had to call DCL and BEG to change them back to Main. :) And thankfully, they unlinked the reservations and were able to get them first seating back. Which taught me a huge lesson about linking reservations. :)
