New to Boards, New to Renting my Points

I'm reading as many posts as I can to get up to speed... but I have a question. Until I build a reputation on the boards and have lots of posts, is it still possible to "rent" my points, or should I wait until next year?

I have *** ***points that expire Aug. 1 and *** banked points for the same place. Thinking I might have to trade in with RCL to keep them alive.

Any great advice for the newbie?

The options for any points that expire August 1 (assume you mean 2009), are very limited. You're past the time you could use them for any non-DVC option with the exception of the DL resorts and RCI. Renting a reservation will be difficult (if not impossible) because DVC resort availability between now and July 31,2009 is spotty at best. If those points are current use year points, you could see if anyone is interested in a transfer. Again, there isn't much time to get that done and there may not be much interest unless MS will allow the recipient to bank the transferred points.

My advice is to call MS and see what you can do with an RCI "deposit first". MS will take the points from your account now and you will have up to two years to find a match. Because it's a late deposit, there may be other restrictions on what you can get in trade.

When do the banked points expire? If they were banked into 2009, then they are good until 7/31/2010. If you can't use them before then, you do have a lot of time to find a renter.

If they also expire on 7/31/2009, then I think a late deposit to RCI or a last minute trip to one of the Disneyland resorts (if available) would be your only option for them.
