Hi everyone, I was not to sure if i should join but decided to! My husband and I after going to Disney last year in Sept and sitting through the DVC presentation we decided that next time we go down we will be joining. So this year we will be tent camping in Ft. wilderness in Sept 8-18 hoping to buy and RV buy next year since my father has owned and worked in this business for a while.

1.The first thing i was wondering is if anyone knows how big the sites are? I am sure that they are not all the same due to nature. My husband is looking at buying this big tent.

2. Is there a loop that i should request for? My husband and I both don't mind walking just for tent wise, or maybe if our three year old wakes up cranky lol.

3. I see people bring cute decorations such as lights and other things is that appropriate for me to do in September?

4.Should I bring my own shower tent? I have seen a lot of pictures on here with them but don't know if it is allowed, not that i mind using the comfort stations.

Thank you all for your help!! so excited to start camping!!

WELCOME!!!!!

You are right, the sites vary in size. As far as tent sites, the smallest is probably 12 ft wide by 20 ft deep. There are a couple of sites in Loop 1500 that have trees in weird spots.
2. Is there a loop that i should request for? My husband and I both don't mind walking just for tent wise, or maybe if our three year old wakes up cranky lol.

There are two "partial hookup" loops. 1500 and 2000. Loop 1500 is small, is close to the pool, movie, bike barn, trading post. However, loop 1500 is an older loop and is the loop that has a few weird sites that might not accomodate your tent.
Loop 2000 is the other partial hookup loop. The sites there are huge and accomodate just about any tent setup you might want. It is a large loop and has two comfort stations. It is a bit isolated, so you need to bring bikes or rent/bring a golf cart.

3. I see people bring cute decorations such as lights and other things is that appropriate for me to do in September?

ABSOLUTELY

4.Should I bring my own shower tent? I have seen a lot of pictures on here with them but don't know if it is allowed, not that i mind using the comfort stations.
The only reason you would need one is if you want to bring a portapotty for the middle of the night times. The comfort stations are VERY clean, have GREAT water pressure and plenty of hot water.

Not a problem!! You will LOVE the Fort. (Did you know you can get campsites with DVC points??)

Thank you so much clkelley! My other question (if you can answer) it is what about the golf carts and renting them.Should we rent one ? I am a little bit confused about why to rent since I am new to the campground. Like I said my husband and I don't mind walking at all.

Thanks again!

It is not necessary but it is a nice way to see the entire campground and go "looping". You can also rent bikes or bring your own. They have an internal bus system so you will never have to walk very far if you do not mind waiting for a bus.

The main reason we get a cart is because my DGD's favorite rides are Pirates, Golf Cart, Small World, Golf Carts, Tea Cups, Golf Carts.
Get it. We ride around the campground every evening and visit others and to check out the others sites. Some of the camp site decorations are crazy.
There are off site rentals much cheaper than Disney's

I can understand I'm sure ill get that from my soon to be 4year old lol. I think this will be my last question at least I hope. I had asked about bringing lights and things down, since we will be down in Sept, would it be okay to do the Halloween theme?

You betcha, Halloween is one of the most decorated holidays. You and your 4 y/o will love it.
We have a Mickey pole light and Mickey awning lites I found on EBay. Now I've added a Mickey Dis Board sign with our name. You also are required to do a Mickey head with pine cones on your driveway.

In the probably 400+ days we have stayed at FW, we have rented a GC twice, once back in the 80's for like 3 days and this last time we rented one for one day, Xmas Eve, to loop and take our time to look at all the decorations at night.

The $60 or so a day just to not use the bus, etc. is a little pricey for what you are getting IMO. If you need something from the Meadows they have vehicle parking for probably 10 or so cars, about 4 at the building and like 5 or 6 across the street about 100' away.

The internal bus service IMO is good and we seldom have to wait more than 10 or 15min for a bus.

Golf carts aren't a necessity - the Disney transport system will get you where you need to go - but they sure are FUN!! Especially if you're going to plan to spend some time just exploring the Fort. Remember that the campground it pretty darned huge - a mile front to back and 800+ sites plus cabins. (map HERE)

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the $60+/day Disney carts, check out the Golf Cart Thread for info on some off site rental companies.

Renting a golf cart really boils down to how much time you actually spend at the campground. If most of your time is going to be spent visiting parks and very little time at the campground - your $$$ could be better spent on other things. If the main purpose of your visit to Ft.W is to kick back, relax, and spend very little time in the parks, I highly recommend a golf cart - or at the very least, bicycles. We camped at the Fort about 20 years before we bought a golf cart. Now we never go to the Fort without one - but we're old. Not as old as LarryJ, but close! :rotfl:

Well said. I agree, it doesn't make a lot of sense money wise if most of your time will be at the parks. On the other hand, you can get a cart from Kenny for less than $250 for a week's stay. We loved having the cart. The other thing that you don't really get till you stay there, is just HOW BIG the place is. It's ginormous, and a cart allows you to see all of it easily. Plus they're fun.

BTW, I've never seen a nicer CG bathroom. ;)
