At the World now, just tried to add a day to my 5 day hopper. Under the old policy it was $10 plus change, they now want $85.00. Would not honor old policy even though ticket was bought in August 2018 directly from Disney. Told them to forget it.

It has always been the case that to alter a ticket after a change like that, it requires that the old-style ticket be converted to a new-style ticket, and any additional cost that entails. Last year I sued some discounted tickets from before the price hike that were still the kind with no expiration date. One thing they told me is that they could not be altered without conversion to the new tickets with expiration dates. It pretty much stinks, but that's the deal.

I'm in the same boat. I knew before the ticket change that I wanted to add a day to my tickets, but I bought them from UT and can't do it until I get there. :sad2:

I get that BrianL but that's like when someone says "well that's the rules", when they make the rules !! I knew I wanted to add a 6th day when I was still home, I should have pushed a supervisor at that time to do the upgrade.

Just need to point out that the person behind the counter doesn't make the rules. They are required to implement the rules that others set. Frankly, the supervisor doesn't make the rules either. I always feel so sorry for service people who get chewed out by customers over issues that they have absolutely no control over.

If you want to complain you will need to go much further up on the "food chain" to find someone who actually makes policy decisions like this.

I just added a day to 2 of our 6 6 day tickets. I had booked a 7th day for 2 of us (arriving earlier than the rest) and had received an email that they would cancel our fps for November 5th - the last day of our trip. So, I called to add a day. It turned out to be 56.00 for the 2 tickets (not too bad) and the guy asked what day I wanted to ADD. I told him the 5th. So, he proceeded to cancel our tickets and make them 7 day hoppers starting on November the 5th. Our vacation starts on October 29th. I'm currently on an old laptop and have not been able to see my itinerary and tickets for 2 days. Talk about panic; less than a week away and I was looking at losing all our fps if it didn't get straightened out. Lucky for me, I went through IT first, then she connected me with an AMAZING CM who worked through the whole cluster mess. So far so good. She was kind of at a bit of a loss as the ticketing system is new to her also.
However, that said, last visit with family in 2016 we had 7 day hoppers. As my DS decided to attend the Villain Event, we needed to add 2 tickets to his and DWs. At the resort, we were told it would be 80.00 per ticket. I said, no that's wrong. It should only be around 10.00. She went and spoke with someone at length, and came back with 60.00 per. I told her no, that's wrong. She went and spoke with a supervisor and came back with 40.00. I took it, even though I still felt it was wrong. I should have gone elsewhere.

But being at home or at WDW doesn't matter. It's the policy change that matters, because they can't change tickets bought under the previous rules. This isn't new. It's not that a one-day upgrade costs $85 now, it's that you have to upgrade your ticket to be in line with current pricing before a change can be made.

Well... maybe.
How many upgrade locations did you try?

Yup.

Not necessarily true. In the past, people who "bridged" tickets had different experiences. It depended on if the CM knew how to do it correctly.

Honestly, don't see how this is different from any other industry. Price went up since you bought the ticket, and now you have pay more to modify it. If I want to extend a car rental, move a flight to a different time, or change a room on a cruise ship, I have to pay the rates prevailing at the time of the modification. I once had a car rental that was originally $50 a day go up by $250 because I added a single night.

Price bridging has always locked your ticket in at full, current day price when you used it no matter how much you actually paid for it. Then you just paid the price to upgrade as if you had purchased your ticket at full price today. It was supposed to continue to work the same even after the ticketing change this year.

Not on DCL. You can change category with the rates from the time you paid. Besides, all those industries have perks and reward programs & on & on. If we’re going with comparison it needs to be a true comparison.

1. Sorry, but that has not been the case for at about 3 years, now.
And, it has been even for a longer time that a ticket bought directly from Disney (tickets-only order by phone, on-line, or ticket booth) is NOT price-bridged at all.

2. The current "correct procedure" is spelled out in the "Cost to Upgrade Tickets" post in the Ticket Sticky> HERE.

You will note that the date on which your original ticket was "minted" (created) determines how much
it will actually cost to upgrade that ticket.

However, there are SOME cases when a CM will offer a bit of "pixie dust" for the guest,
and charge (what amounts to) the price of upgrading a CURRENT, new ticket.
It is wise to not "expect" that to happen,
but it never hurts to "ask nicely."

Robo, so is that the new price per day when adding days to tickets now?
You basically pay for a full-price one day ticket when adding days?

No.
But, (taking into account too many factors to spell out here,) the cost to add one
day (upgrade by one day) might "LOOK like" it was the same price as (or similar to) just buying a new full-price one-day ticket.

The biggest difference IMO is that Disney won't allow you to add on until you arrive. So you book and decide you want to add another couple of days when it's still $10 you can't call and just change it you have to wait until you arrive. Then they change the price on you in the meantime so you are stuck with the new price based on your dates when you booked well in advance under another pricing option. Flights are pretty different and changes in flights should always anticipate fees. If I want to change my car rental and add days I can do that now well ahead of my trip dates. Those things will always cost more at the time of your trip but you can make those changes in advance and avoid the higher prices.

I bought eight day base tickets before the price increase from Undercover Tourist. I was thinking of adding a day once we arrived since we'll be arriving earlier than expected. How do I find out what the minted day of the ticket is? If the cost to upgrade is significant, we just won't do it.
