New Things Coming To Dining!

Trails End, Boma and Biergarten are not character meals. Ohana, 1900 Park Fare, Hollywood & Vine, Cape May, and Tusker House have characters for breakfast only.

The participating restaurants ARE all either buffets or family style places.

1900 PF is a character meal at dinner right now. It features Cinderella and her Prince plus the Wicked Stepmother and Stepsisters. Is that changing in 2009?

Not that I know of - I went there last year and didn't remember any characters - but then I probably wouldn't have noticed them as I was with a large group of adults in a back room. Sorry to freak out the character meal people.

I realize that, but that's not my point. It seems to me that it would be the table service/non-buffet style without characters is where I would want this stuff to be available. Not to the type of meals it's available for. I mean, maybe I could use it at Boma, but with my kids, if they're getting antsy I can just take them up to the buffet and get them more fruit! It's the table service where you're served and waiting for your meal that you need something to keep them occupied!

Yes, I understand the point - but there are still plenty of non-character (albeit buffet) options to choose for those who don't want the extra distraction with the characters. (The original post you made mentioned only character meals, not buffets in general - and you are correct that the child's entertainment options are not available at any meals that are not buffets or family-style meals. The family style meals are served at the table, so they might work better for the purposes of parents of small children)

They need to offer the great deal like the do on their cruises. You can get celebration type packages (bon voyage, birthday, etc) for $39 plus tax. I've done the birthday one twice and think it's such a great deal! You get a nice cake, a big magnet with happy birthday that had the main characters was on the door, there was a happy birthday banner w/ the character, this thing that hangs down from the ceiling and another one like the one on the ceiling that stood up. Nice stuff and for such a reasonable price!! Too bad they don't offer such a deal for the rooms!

No freak out here. :-) But there seem to be so many changes a-foot that I wanted to verify.

This sounds pretty cool I wish they had that for our up coming trip!!! 8 MORE DAYS!!!!!!

Here is WDW version of welcome package

This is kind of OT to the dining topic, but that Mickey is so big that he'd need his own plane ticket to fly home!

With Disney feeling the effect of the economy's woes, I think they are trying to make money in extra ways and that these changes are probably a preview of more changes to come.

So, if you want crayons and coloring book to enertain the young ones, you now have to pay for it! Sounds like a great way to cut costs--for Disney.

My thoughts exactly!! Guess I better add a coloring book and crayons to my bag......:confused3

I looked it up on Disney's website and it says it's not available until Spring 2009? :confused3 I would love to see some pics of the actual stuff too but of course that's not on their site either.

I just checked and it still says Spring 2009. We are going in January and I was really thinking of doing some of these! :confused3

yeah and I guess the days of the free birthday cupcake are gone too!

I agree with the PP who said that other kids are going to see the table with this and wonder why they can't have it...I wonder if you have to order it in advance or if you can get it that day when your kid sees it and wants it.

Well, I for one, love the idea of the pirates chest. :thumbsup2 We will be celebrating our son's 13th birthday at Chef Mickeys and were looking for an option other than a big cake. Spending $40 or so on a full sized cake that our small family of 3 couldn't eat in one sitting seemed silly, but NOT having anything at all seemed even worse. The $15 treasure chest might be cheesy, or even juvenile for my brand-new teenager, but it will bring just the right amount of "celebration" to our table for a reasonable cost.

I say YAY DISNEY!
I agree completely! We also have a family of three and my DD will turn six on the full last day of our trip. I thought about ordering a cake that day but we are flying home and won't have time to eat leftover cake. The Princess Jewelry Chest/ individual cake seems like a better alternative. I think it will be a perfect complement to her Chef Mickey's birthday dinner. I might even spring for the table decorations. ;)

I am kind of digging the pop up centerpiece thingy. I might have to have one of those for my birthday. Or I might have to have one of those a few days before my birthday so I get my money's worth out of it! :rotfl2:

Earlier, when I heard about this, I inquired with the AKL IPO and this is the response I got about the "sweetheart dinner for two"....

Dumela! Stephanie,

I apologize Stephanie but we currently have little information but it is my pleasure to share with you what we know. The price for the Sweetheart Dinner for two is $150+tax+gratuity. Credit card guarantee is required and there is a 24hour cancellation policy.

1 Entrée per Guest
(4 entrée choices)
1 Dessert for Two (shared)
1 Glass of Magicale, Celebration Cuvee, or Sparkling Cider per Guest
1 Takeaway commemorative etched champagne flute and menu per Guest

And I believe we should be able to add it to your current reservation. Please let us know if you would like to take part in this special, romantic offer or if there are any other questions we may answer for you.

Enjoy the Magic!,

I will let you know if I get any more updates. Hopefully I can find out more about the menu selections!!!

that does not sound like it's a discounted deal so I don't need to go look for people to help impersonate a couple, thank goodness.

Yes, the Sweetheart Dinner sounds like no bargain at all. And, you only get one dessert! Sorry, but the apple cider or cheap champagne toast in glasses that can't cost Disney more than 50 cents a flute doesn't make up for that!

Is there nothing Disney won't put a dollar sign on? Even a kid's coloring page and a crayon. Good grief.

no one is forced to into these, but there are many who WANT something special at the table. This will remove the geez, will something special happen at dinner

Now people can plan on what they want and purchase these add ons if they want. Spend 5 minutes on the cake thread and you will see that there are many that want and are willing to pay to make their event special :thumbsup2
