Has anyone heard of a new $1B theme park (similar to Epcot) to be constructed near Celebration?

Well, THAT'S a new one. Haven't heard anything, though.

Living in the area, all I've really heard is that over the next few years Sea World will migrate to being less fish place and much more amusement park.

I spoke with an architect who stated that his firm has been working on the site, architectural, engineering drawings for a couple of years and are close to completion. I do not see this individual being other than truthful. Too much detail and he had nothing to gain by telling me this info. I asked him why I had never heard anything about this and he stated that until all of the estimates, financing. etc were in place it was not open to comment. It is to be announced fairly soon according to this individual.

Does the guy say that this is a Disney thing, or some other company?

The master-planned $2 billion visitor development near Celebration is Xentury City. (The Gaylord Palms resort is part of Xentury City.) See http://www.xenturycity.com/

I wouldn't call Xentury City itself a theme park. Xentury City will include visitor-oriented dining, retail, and convention facilities -- and whatever various developers decide to build on the still-available parcels of Xentury City.

It's certainly possible that a developer has engaged an architectural firm to design something that's "similar to Epcot," such as an international shopping-dining-entertainment village, for one or more of the larger parcels in Xentury City. Of course, hiring an architect is not a guaranty that something will actually be built. The next step is typically to use business plans and the architect's drawings seek financial backing, which may or may not be successful.

It's seem like a city within a city. It did not mention theme rides......but more like it will help attract and feed off of current attractions.

If Six Flags Inc ever solves their capital problems I expect to see them move into central Florida.

Sounds more like Downtown Disney with chain stores then a theme park like Epcot. Man, talk about gridlock city, The roads they speak of in the short video clips are already choked with traffic. We may have to start parachuting onto Disney property! :sad2:

I'm new here so I'm sorry for jumping in. I live in Central FL and the signage for "Xentury City" has been there for so many years now that I thought it was long forgotten. The signs are up (real estate/for sale/leases available-type signs) near the intersection of 417 and the Gaylord Palms. I've never heard anything even mentioned about it, that's why I thought it was just old signs no one bothered to remove.

Thank you for jumping in. That's a good point about the signs for Xentury City having been around for many years. Aside from the Gaylord Palms resort and a few chain stores like the Publix and the Walgreen's at International Drive and Highway 192, there hasn't been much built at Xentury City.

According to Xentury City's master development plan, there are several large parcels available near the Gaylord Palms. Even if they were combined, these parcels would be on the small side for a true Disney-style theme park, parking, and support structures. But there's plenty of land for a $1 billion mixed-use tourist development.

Based on walter's report that an architect told him that he was working on something "similar to Epcot" near Celebration, it was purely speculation on my part that this architect's work could involve undeveloped land at Xentury City.

Thank you for the info! It's always us "locals" that learn of these things last! :sunny:
