According to ABC News....

The new travel rules call for proof of a negative COVID test within one day of travel to the U.S. for all passengers, regardless of their vaccination status or nationality.

This is supposedly something that may be announced by President Biden today. If this is true, does this mean that we will need to be tested before getting on a flight home?

If true, yes.

Right now this is still rumor and I don't believe DIS wants the sharing of rumors.

This is a new rule for international travel into USA, for flights from Europe, Canada etc etc .

Where are you getting a flight home from?

This new rule applies to me as I will be flying from Ireland to USA. It means that the day before my flight I need to get a negative Covid test either a PCR test or LFT / Antigen test and a fit to fly certificate , which needs to be submitted to my airline before departure.

We will be embarking and disembarking at US ports; however, the cruise goes internationally. Would this rule apply under those circumstances?

It is not a rumour, it is being reported by multiple news sources and is also on the White House website.

The current requirement is a negative Covid test 3 days before the flight to USA. This will be changing on Monday to 1 day before the flight.

If it's on the WH site, then it's not "supposably" as stated in the OP any more. Supposably isn't a particularly firm statement. :)

No this rule does not apply to you. These new rules were started on 8 November when the ban that prohibited entry to USA from 33 countries was removed.

The rules apply ONLY to international flights and other border crossings such as the land border with Mexico and Canada.

The current rules about a negative Covid test and a fit to fly certificate do not apply to cruise ships departing from USA ports, so the new rule from Monday will not apply to cruise ships departing USA ports.

The current rule and new rule also do not apply to domestic USA flights.

I am not going to apologize for not having looked at the White House website to confirm what ABC has already reported. I am very grateful to the other poster who found that information to confirm what I was reading. However, both of your responses to my post have been argumentative, at best, and I would appreciate if you lower the tone with your comments.

Thank you for your answer. This is the information I was trying to understand. I appreciate you taking the time to explain this to me.

I think the question is, will there also be new guidance or requirements for testing of cruise ship passengers before they can debark? (Since many passengers will then get off the ship and get on a plane.) Watching closely as we sail 2 weeks from Sunday!

No there will not be. I have been following this for the last 2 days as I am from Ireland and I have a trip to California booked at the end of January and the changes affect me.

Multiple news sources are now reporting about the changes due to be announced today by Biden

The main focus is on things for Americans in America.
  1. The mask mandates on public transport, airports, planes etc to be extended to March 18
  2. 50 million at-home tests to be sent to 20,000 federal sites around the country to be handed out for free.
  3. People can claim back cost of antigen test from their health insurance
  4. Covid test for arriving into USA changed from 3 days to 1 day before flight.

I think the point is that as of 12:52pm ET the announcement has not yet been made. Therefore, it is still speculation around what the specifics will be. There is a lot of detail out there but without the formal announcement it's still just rumor. From what I can find, the new travel rules are expected to be announced at 1:40pm ET.

I've been at work and haven't checked the news - anything announced yet?!

As per information on the link provided in the post above , this only applies to international flights. As of now, land borders are not covered by this new requirement

Everyday our trip at the end of January is getting a little more complicated.... thankfully I think we can still adhere to one day instead of three. The catch is that no one seems able to confirm what kind of PCR test we can get... I had a call with our travel health clinic just this afternoon and they said we'd be better off to just pay out of pocket for EXACTLY what we need and then submit that for reimbursement.

..and be prepared to get stuck for a few extra days. :crazy2:

This is an issue for those sailing Monday. People are are scrambling. Canadians and others who are flying in that day. Good luck!!!

PCR test not needed. Lateral flow or antigen testing is accepted as well. Those are rapid and easily accessible and much cheaper :)

The White House held a press backgrounder briefing Wednesday night with details about what was going to be announced Thursday. That is where the info the press was reporting came from. See https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing...t-the-delta-and-omicron-variants-this-winter/
