New "term" for pre-teen girls I heard yesterday...

If a mom wants to let that stuff fly, then that IS her business but when her daughter gets raped...I hope she will hold some personal responsibility. Is it directly anyone's fault but the rapists? No. Are there things that attract a sexual predator? Yes.

ooo...careful there. it has been continually agrued that no matter what a woman wears - it's not an excuse for rape.

and, just as an FYI to the moms who DO let their daughters wear the low slung pants but maybe not thongs...victorias secrect just came out with a "brazillian bikini". it's part of the signature cotton line. it's a normal string bikini (full butt coverage) except it rides very very low.

haven't seen them in stores yet - but have seen them in cataloges and online. I personally love them.

pedophiles usually target girls who look like children, not teens, so maybe these overtly sexual looks actually detere the pedophile. But it may attract the 20 year old who thinks the girl in 18-19 not 13. But the term prostitots is not something society has come up with. This is the first time I have ever heard this highly offensive term. Do you call adult women prostitutes just because they dress sexy? We always have to demean people and put them down. Why don't we think of some positive things to say, and change the world one comment at a time from a negative experience to a positive one. By the way, I have a tween age son, and they aren't exactly angels either, so where is the offensive term to talk about them?

I didn't say it is an excuse. I said there are things that attract a sexual predator.

Who came up with it if it's not society? I agree it's an offensive term, but all these made up expressions to describe something come from society in one shape or form.

The other thing I have a problem with is the pants or shorts with writing on the seat. Do we really need to bring attention to the derriere of a 10-year old girl by turning it into a billboard? [/B]

ITA KingsFanInRI; this was last year when my daughter was in Fifth grade we were at a school function where a couple of the "popular" girls were wearing these types of shorts and one of the boys started following the girls reading the words on the shorts out loud and another girl in the class got on the boy for pointing out the word and that he shouldnt be doing that. the girl that had the shorts on said "Thats sort of the point, at least hes looking". I was there heard it myself, I couldnt believe it FIFTH GRADE you could have pushed me over with a feather. Needless to say my daughter does NOT dress like this, if she tried wouldnt be allowed out of the house. I canat imagine what will be next by the time my now 5 year old gets to this age. scarey.

I agree it is an offensive term - just because the girls LOOK like little prostitutes doesn't mean they ARE. In fact, many of these young girls I have seen dressed this way might not even know what a prostitute IS.

I don't like the term either, but maybe the offensive connotation will make some young girls think twice about being perceived that way and start covering up more. I have young nieces who are most definately in style, and popular with their peers, that don't dress like that. I don't buy that a girl has to dress provacitively in order to have friends and be popular.

Of course, there is peer pressure and of course there are bad examples like Brittany and Christina but I try to maintain an ongoing dialog with my DD about this. The way I put it to her is that Brittany and Christina are performers wearing 'costumes' for their attention-grabbing professions. We talk about what they gain from this and what they lose! I try to let her know what our standards are and why. So, the motto in our house is - "Class...... Not Trash !"

(Oooops. I just read that last line and realized what I might look like by itself. I hope the tag fairies aren't awake. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )

We used to call them 'street treats' :)
THis is really nothing new. Girls will dress in whatever is considered fashion of the day. We had hip huggers and elephant legs and belly shirts (we called them midrifts) etc. Most of the "new" fashions have been around at least once before.

I won't let my daughter wear alot of that stuff. She is 16 almost 17. She still lives in my house and we have rules.

The big thing up here now is for the girls to wear extra lowrise jeans and wear the highside thongs up over the hip bones so everyone can see what they wear. I have no problems with women or men that want to wear lowrise jeans even the teenagers that wear them it is an expression of their culture just like it was for the people of the 60's and 70's with their clothes every era has this stuff and it is not goin to go away any time soon.

If the point isn't for boys to read the crap, then what exactly do these girls think the point is? And if they are so naive that they don't realize that is EXACTLY the point, they are too damn young to be wearing them!

is it wrong that I find that term abso-freakin'-lutley hilarious?

oh what is this world coming too...

This thread makes me glad I have only a boy.

You know, TEENS dressing suggestively to rebel against their parents goes back many generations. It's not just this one.

I am freaking out reading this thread because we are talking about such young girls.

Like someone else here said, if they're dressing like this (i.e., with their lower abdomens and undies showing) at 8, 10, and 12, what will they wear to rebel or get attention with at 15 and 16? :earseek:

What frightens me is that parents buy their 8, 10 and 12 year old's these clothes. How far are the parents willing to go the be a 'friend' to their child? Peer pressure is one thing, which I understand, but just because my daughjter will have friends wearing words on her butt, doesn't mean she will. In the end, I still control the checkbook, and I'm the one taking her shopping.

I also think it's amusing that parents think that the thongs they buy for their DD's are for use in Dance class....and the thong is never worn under the low rise jeans so that they show.

Reminds me of back in the "olden days" when the minute I left the house(in High School) I'd roll my uniform skirt to mini-skirt height....and I thought THAT was being a "rebel"!!
:p :p :p :p

All 8 to 12 year old's need to worry about panty lines.

just remember, though, it's not what a teenager puts on her body that gets her pregnant -- it's what she takes off.

Well, I guess if that's all that matters, then kids can dress the way they want. But I can still have any opinion of them and their parents that I want.
