New survey .. proposal .. Tiered Ticket Prices

This grand plan has been in works since 2011 (that we know of), and in that time period we have a net gain of zero rides in Epcot, DHS, and DAK.
Look at the bright side... we will get more capacity on TSMM and Soarin'...
And when Pandora opens, we'll have "Soarin' over Pandora" and "It's a Blue World After All" to look forward to.

That's going in my notes. LOL

Haven't read all posts, but thank goodness for FLR annual passes!

I am sure if they do this there would be adjustments made - certain tiers of passes that limit access if you don't buy the premium platinum pass which allows you into MK on a Sunday...

Did you see the article from the Sentinal that I posted from 2012? This has been discussed in the Theme Park world for about 3 years now. Not really a secret. The model has be referred to as airline pricing. That doesn't take a lot of speculation...

It is pretty easy to see all the moves from the past few years have been leading this direction.

The force driving all this is...Finding ways to absorb crowds without building a lot of new attractions or a 5th gate.

Disney desperately needs more attractions to make all this work, but they still seem to be going about that in a weird way:
  • Replacing Maelstrom with Frozen ride - net gain zero
  • Taking 6 years to build Pandora ?????????? Nuts
  • Taking away Parades
  • Adding Playgrounds at DHS?
  • Adding capacity to TSMM and Soarin should help I guess - but not new locations - this doesn't help FP options
  • Building more interactive queues

Yes, there is a lot more to this than wild speculation. And remember, plenty of people were saying there was no way they'd ever make you reserve a ride 60 days in advance either.

So can we discuss this or not? It seems that there are arguments against EVER talking about it which really defeats the purpose of a forum.

I'm mostly concerned about FP+ showing up at DL. Since that resort is so local-centric I can't imagine the purpose of adding FP+ there.

You can add discontinuation of the no expiration tickets to your list, as I think that's part of the groundwork here.

And I have zero excitement over them adding Soarin and TSMM capacity. Unless it makes a big enough difference for them to end tiering, it likely won't change what we can do in those parks on a given day under FP+.

...... at an even higher premium price.

I was posting in and reading discussions on the dlr board that I recall you participating in as well. They were about the "no MBs at DLR" statements. I'm assuming those discussions are what you are referring to, as I haven't actually seen it talked about on the wdw boards. If I'm wrong, I apologize. At the time of those discussions I read on the dlr board, the no MB information was coming from the fast company article. I was simply adding by saying that has been further confirmed in the la times article. (There are also threads discussing the la times article on the dlr boards that I also participated in). I wasn't arguing with you, just adding more info for those who may not have heard that here on the wdw side of things. :confused3

I also said in those discussions, and here today, that I agreed that no MBs didn't mean no fp+. So, again, we are apparently in agreement.

Eta: since we have a dlr trip planned for this fall, I've been on the dlr boards quite a lot. The fp+ rumor would affect our trip if it were to.come to fruition, so I've been reading all the information I can.

Since we have chosen DLR as our primary Disney destination for the past 2 years and intend to do the same this year, I have kept up to date on the DLR side of the boards for some time. The discussions you reference have been it. No other information one way or the other.

Tom Staggs was quoted as saying no MB for DLR, and the very first thing I noted about that is that he didn't say no FP+.

The blog quoted an unnamed "insider" saying FP+ would start testing in August. That's pretty curious since they don't even have wifi in their parks yet.

I read a great many that did just that.

But I'm much too busy preparing for our WDW trip in less than 2 weeks (can't wait!!) , and I'm sure all the sand and surf is much more attractive to you than spending time tracking down old posts to prove a point. We can just agree to disagree.:)

Enjoy the beach! I hope you enjoy your trip as much as I know we're going to enjoy ours !

I know people predicted it would come to some attractions. I just don't recall the posts indicating it would come to all attractions.

We're having a great time playing in the sand and surf. It's an awesome way to rest up to storm the Magic Kingdom. I hope you have a great trip as well.

4G and/or kiosks...

It seems to me that if they do make this tiered ticket price a reality they will have to do away with annual and seasonal tickets and also the Epcot after 4 passes and so on am I thinking correctly?

If tiered tickets were the norm, it would give them a reason for annual and seasonal pass costs to rise even more.

Same strategy used for FP+. A flurry of news stories, features, and hype and then months of absolutely NO information at all. You know they have decided to move this direction, they must use the reaction of the public to see how to best navigate the waters.

I'm still most interested to see how their software works! Disney's track record is not very good.

It's not, but you know in all of the times I have been there, I have never been undercharged for anything! They are very good at collecting their money I have noticed. ;)

I don't know how APs work, do they have block out days that they can't be used now?
Maybe they'll offer different kinds of passes, a weekday pass only, and one that includes weekends, and one that includes all days plus holiday weeks at a premium price.

That was my first thought. Or maybe they'll just go with gold, silver and bronze level APs to match up with those dates.

There are already tiers now to FLR passes. We could go seasonal for less but have block out dates, but we did the annual pass with no block out dates that costs more. The only difference is that we don't have Premium which includes the water parks and DQ. I find it extremely hard to believe they will block locals out on a Sunday or charge more on a weekend. We are half their bread and butter.

Maybe they won't change anything then for you guys, except for the inevitable price increase.
