NEW-STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST-Questions/Answers

I'm still trying to figure out if I should even do it. I booked through dreamsunlimited.com and they sent a request for an upgrade if available and stated my Gold SPG status. Don't want to be a pest :rolleyes: Just want a great room ;)
 
pewing ~ on the site click on "rates and packages" / then click on the webmaster (I think) or website and an e mail form will come up.
 
From what I have learned on these Boards, you can never be too pesty just always be polite. I don't think it would hurt to e mail them a week before you arrive and simply thank them for considering your previous request for an upgrade and your appreciation for any upgrade they can give you.
 
thanks I'll try that, should I specify complimentary CL or just complimentary upgrade. Will definately remind thaem we are gold status although that is alredy showing on our reservations.

I just asked for a complimentary upgrade. I've since learned that CL is usually the way they go with comp upgrades first. I believe that a balcony room (usually has a view) might be more difficult to get. I didn't mind our standard room with, quite frankly, a lousy view. We were thrilled to receive CL and be on the same floor as the Club room which we found very convenient. All of that at $129 a night -- I was thrilled with what we received. We are in our room so little of the time. I am easily pleased and am usually just happy being back "home" at WDW no matter what!
 
Just back from the Swan. The only thing I wanted to use points for was our massages!!! Heavenly! But I didn't because it would take so many and I want to save them for other trips. Didn't need other points, as we had a jr. suite on the 12th floor, with CL and had resort fee waived, as well as rollaway fee waived. Loved it and Mama T is great and just became a grandmother 2 days ago! More later.

Wow what a great thread. We are gold starwood members and have stayed at many great resorts including swan and dolphin. Last two stays at Dolphin we were upgraded to club privledges without asking or using points and we only had the regular starwood card at that time!

I will be traveling alone with my two girls during April school vacation - booked a regular room with my AP discount and would love club level. This will be so helpful to me on this particular trip I would be willing to use points. When I called the number they were a bit confused as to what I could do. One agent said I could not upgrade the wonderful AP discount, another said it was 750 points a night and still another said 1250. Anyone have any 1st hand experience or know of a reliable person to contact at either the Dolphin or SPG. I don't mind using points as this is worth it to me but if the chances are good that I will be comped - that of course would be better.

I have some time before my trip so thanks for the help!

Okay, new question. I applied for SPG Amex on-line and made a mistake in filling out the app. It came back they could not process request and I would here from them in 7-10 days. I realized my mistake as soon as I saw the screen so called the next day and it was immediately approved on the phone. Anyway, I don't have the number or the card yet and my SPG status is still just at the preferred level. Should I wait to call to have my status upgraded to Gold until I get my card? What do I ask for when I call since I didn't see this a a benefit on the SPG website.

If I booked a Swan Lake view room and wanted to upgrade to a suite using points
How many points would that be? I was reviewing posts and some show a whopping 10,000 points others show 1250 which is it???

I called. I told the lady at SPG that I was a Plat. AMEX holder and that we owned stock in Starwood. I asked her which was 'better'...Gold Status or Corporate Status. She said Gold and upgraded me. She upgraded me without any problems. I don't even have my card yet...so I didn't give her the number. Hope this helps :D
 
does anyone remember which month last spring starwoods gave free fridays and saturdays? I know I got 2 free fridays for out 8 night stay at the dolphin but actually hoping to get the same offer this year

Thanks to all here I was upgraded to Gold level today too. In the e-mail from customer service they said I could print out a temporary card from the SPG web site. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to do this. Has anyone had any success doing this, I'm not sure if I will need it when I check in to the hotel and I don't think my new card will be here in time.

yep. Login to SPG then go to "my account" and replace card then it gives you one to print out.

I didn't have my card in time for check-in. I brought the one I printed from the computer and my gold #. I wasn't asked to show anything upon check-in - they had the info in their computer.
 
I gave them my AMEX cc and my platinum card; they didn't ask. But they did ask for my teaching credentials, of which they made a copy of my certificate. (I had a copy of my cert. and my NEA card and my school ID)

What do you all think...

I am an RN in Alabama. We get a nifty little 'credit card' type card every time we renew our Alabama license. Would that be sufficient...or should I bring a paycheck too?

Of course...I work one day a week right now. If they see my paystub...they might let me stay free ;)
