As you may be aware, our ships are primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, we recognized that some Guests smoke and strive to make a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all of our Guests.

From time to time, we make adjustments to our operation based on Guest feedback and are making a change to our smoking policy. While Guests have never been permitted to smoke in their staterooms, effective November 15, 2013, Guests will no longer be permitted to smoke on stateroom verandahs. Each ship will continue to offer open-air public spaces designated as smoking areas. Information on designated smoking areas can be found on our website at https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/my-cruise-plans/faqs/health-safety/smoking.

Thank you again for sailing with us. We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew

While I never had a problem with smoke on our sailings this is a very welcome change to their smoking policy but will, no doubt, upset some who book a verandah in order to smoke close to "home".

And, with this and the shorts in the dining room change, it seems DCL is REALLY LISTENING TO GUEST FEEDBACK which is always a good thing.

I just got the same email. BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!!

We set sail on Nov 15th with our first ever verandah - and are so excited by this news. Thank you Disney.

What great news!

I really thought this was coming, but am surprised that it is being implemented ship-wide; I thought they'd pick either port or starboard first, or certain decks.

Completely agree!!! I was so happy to get this email tonight! Our last cruise we were stuck with a smoker on the veranda next to us. Even with the wind it bothered my asthma too much to be out when they were. So thrilled that on our Alaska cruise I can look forward to being out there whenever I want without having to go in if my neighbors come out!

OMG I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO beyond happy about this. :beach: pixiedust: :drive::drive: :wave2: :joker:

We upgraded once to a verandah while I was pregnant and dealt with smoke so we'd said "Never again." Now the in-laws booked a verandah for our next trip and I'd been worried about their enjoyment ever since.

Thank you DCL! Thank you thank you thank you.

While they might be able to do that going forward with new cruise dates, it would be difficult with cruises that are already booked.

I do wish this had been in place on our last cruise.

So very thrilled by the news!! I have never had a problem but wouldn't want one.

I do think that they announced this because the effective date gives anyone truly unhappy with the news an option to cancel with a full cruise refund.

It says effective November 15th so that appears to be their "fair warning".

Hudson3709 beat me to it. LOL I was just signing on here to post the following from DCL.com

"Q:
Where can I smoke on board?
A:
Disney Cruise Line has never allowed smoking in Guest staterooms. In addition, smoking is prohibited in all interior spaces throughout our ships and beginning November 15, 2013, smoking will be prohibited on stateroom verandahs. In an effort to provide a cruise experience that satisfies both our non-smoking and smoking Guests, smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is only permitted in designated areas of the ship.

On the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, smoking is permitted on:

Outdoors on Deck 4 starboard side from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. only
The starboard side open-air decks 9 and 10 (excluding the Mickey Pool area).
On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, smoking is permitted on:

Deck 4 port side, aft, the outside Promenade Deck from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Deck 12 port side, aft, the outdoor area that is accessible through the Meridian Lounge
Deck 13 port side, forward, by Currents Bar
Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms or on their verandahs will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. This fee covers deep cleaning that includes air filter replacement, carpet extraction and the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets and pillows, along with verandah cleaning and maintenance.

We have carefully considered which areas of our ships to designate as smoking and non-smoking, and we do periodically review our policies to ensure continued Guest satisfaction."

Wonderful news!!! I just saw these emails in my inbox too :thumbsup2

I was a bit worried about my Mom (she has asthma) on our Alaska cruise next year. When we did B2B on the Dream, she was able to enjoy the verandah on our first leg but could not use it at all on the second leg due to smokers next door. I'm so glad that she will be able to enjoy the scenery in Alaska without having to worry about smoke.

Not that I had a problem with smokers or the smoke, but good to see DCL listens to feed back and it works for both smokers and non-smokers.

Awesome! I get debilitating migraine headaches from cigarette smoke and was worried that our verandah would be adjacent to a smoker. I love this decision :)

Yes! Wish it would start Oct 1, 2013. Luckily for me I know my verandah neighbors on both sides of me this round.
