I'm new to these boards and to camping at FW. Does anyone have suggestions on the "best" sites for a family with three small kiddos (ages 6,3, and 18 mos). We are planning on staying in FW campground next May for the first time (not first time to WDW, tho').

TIA

Gina

Any pets? What are you camping in? Do you really need cable TV or are you like me and would just as soon stay away from TV while you are camping? Would you like to be near the Meadows area (where most recreation is), the Settlement area (near the Marina, Hoop Dee Doo, Trail's end, petting zoo) or do you want to be away from it all?

Do you want to be near the pool or up front by the marina, Trail's End, etc... or do you kinda want to be away from it all? Also, are you taking a dog? If you are you will need to be in a pet loop. Loop's 100, 200 and 300 are up front - walking distance to the marina, Settlement trading post, Trail's end, etc... 1400 and 1500, as well as 1200, 1300 are near the pool, meadow trading post, campfire, and movie. We were in loop 500 this year...still able to walk up to the marina, etc... and also to the pool, campfire. If you're in the further loops you will need to rent a golf cart. Hope that helps...anymore questions just ask.

Let's see... We're in a 30 ft trailer with no pets. I think it would be better to be near recreation but being able to walk to the marina is also important. Sounds like maybe the 500 loop might be good for us. We don't necessarily need cable since we don't plan on spending that much time in the camper! Other questions - how many "down" days (non-park days) do you plan into your itinerary. We're thinking about having 2 "non-planned" days for a 7 day stay. Should we attempt to get tickets to the Hoop De Doo Review? Can we bicycle to the marina or should we stay within walking distance with such young kids ( I don't know how excited the six-year-old will be about a long hike/ride back to our camper after a day in the parks). Any other suggestions/comments about FW in particular are welcome.

Hi Gina,

If you don't have a pet and don't necessarily care about cable you won't need a preferred or pet loop. Yes, you can ride your bike up to the marina. We usually take a day in the middle of our week to kinda hang out, swim, etc.. but it depends how much time you want to spend in the parks and how tired your kids are. I haven't been to Hoop De Doo Review yet but we definelty want to see that - here great things about it so I think you can't go wrong by booking it. I would definetly go to the campfire and the movie one night. They sing songs and you can roast marshmallows by the fire. They sell family smore kits there if you want to buy them there. It's a lot of fun. Afterwards they have a movie on a big screen. Well, that's all I can think of for now. Hope that helps a little bit.

Gina, don't waste several dollars a night more on a preferred site with cable TV. You can get ten or twelve stations with your rv antenna, all the major networks. Bus transportation is available to every loop on a frequent schedule. No long walks required, unless you choose to. We stay in the 1300 loop when available, which is near the Trading Post and campfire, pool, etc. When you check in, ask for a site close to pool, etc and you can usually get one. If you have a choice, try to get a site away from the main roads. Traffic can be noisy. Have a great time!

Hi,
We made our first trip to FW (6th to WDW) the first week of Dec last year. Our kids were DD6 and DS18 months. We choose to stay near the Marina (700 pet loop) simply so we would not have to fold up the stroller to get on and off the bus to get to MK. We just rolled the stroller right on the boat. We even took the boat to the monorail to get to EPCOT one day. It took longer but the kids liked the ride. For park planning we did 4 park days on a 7 day visit. If we try to do more than 2 busy days in a row my DD gets overwhelmed and miserable. On our down days we slept in, went to the petting zoo, playground, and Chef Mickeys. She enjoyed those days almost as much as the parks.
