New Ships - What could you do WITHOUT?

Fair point on the contrary. Personally, once my kids are older, I don't see us on DCL anymore at the cost. On our January Fantasy cruise, SF was largely empty and so were most of the bar areas (most notably O'Gills and Ooh La La), so it seems like that's space that could be re-purposed. The kids clubs were always packed.

You've obviously not been on the same cruises as me. There were times O'Gills and The Tube were so packed you couldn't find a seat. The Cove is usually so crowded that Satellite Falls is a nice retreat. Some of us prefer cruises where we don't have to sit in each other's laps while avoiding screaming children and parents.

Ooh-la-la wouldn't need to be converted to become a piano bar. Just put a piano in. Easy as can be. I think it would be better utilized if more people actually knew it was there. Most people don't realize it since it's a bit out of the way from the others, relatively speaking.

I like this idea...so what would you get rid of to pay for it?

On the Dream Class ships there's always Outlook, since nobody uses it the vast majority of the time anyway.

Shutters has to go, replaced with Photopass or the like. I do like the size of the kids clubs, it's Disney after all and when in the summer, winter break or spring break seasons it could actually be larger.
Now what I consider IMHO a wasted space is the Buena Vista, the movie theater on the classic ship need help if they keep it, we found it uncomfortable on the Wonder and Magic. Never did go in Buena Vista on Fantasy though.
But again why 2 theaters? With the On-demand, Funnelvision, and the Walt Theater couldn't they combine the use of the movie theater in the Walt Theater? Other than the 2 nightly live shows , the occasional shopping or other seminar, muster drill space and excursion meeting place, I don't recall any other time the theater is used. If they scheduled Movies in there when not in use they could take the Buena Vista and make into something awesome. A new Restaurant, an adult kids club, anything.

Shutters. Seems like a huge waste of space and paper. Just add some additional computer terminals to select what pictures you want printed (if any). Even better idea would be some kind of system that allowed you to view your pictures on the TV in your stateroom.

YES!

Another Clara Oman fan here, we love to sit with a drink before dinner and watch her show.

Besides the seminars, muster drills, excursion meets, another activity that frequently occurs in the WDT is rehearsals (new CMs, new shows, general rehearsals), as well as the occasional production show matinee (on sea days). We've been in the Buena Vista theater on the Fantasy/Dream and it was packed. As were most of the movies we've seen in the BVT on the Wonder/Magic. They also use the BVT, as well as the WDT for lectures (port info as well as special speakers).

Get rid of Skyline and add more space to the Tube.

I agree about Oh La La. I have done a tasting in there and it's pretty, but no one is usually in there. I've seen some private functions going on, but nothing else.

I agree that Shutters is a waste of space. Cool concept though.

I love Skyline. It's fun to find those Disney touches in the skylines.

Completely agree - this should absolutely be rethought on the new ships.

As I'm giving serious thought about what I would like to see go, I don't think I can part with anything. I guess that's one of the reasons I love DCL so much. I don't have kids but I see the absolute necessity for kids clubs. I adore rotational dining, so I don't want to see any of the restaurants go. The Rainforest Room is a must-do every trip as is the movie theater. If I had to settle on any one thing, I'd have to agree with PrincessShmoo and out Pink or Oh-La-la for something else. I love Trader Sams Grog Grotto at the Polynesian for the fun atmosphere and it's insanely popular despite the hefty price tag. I could see that being a big draw for adults. And I'm in love with the idea of a piano bar, as well. Choices, choices...

Agreed

5 weeks on the ships for us and the only pool we've been in is Satellite Falls, which is really not even a pool. We had such a good time sloshing around in there though.
We spend a lot of time in the Cove on our Panama trip, only place with a view that wasn't too hot and humid to sit and I'm sure it's packed on Alaska cruises as well.
The shows and movies have always been packed when we've gone.

Don't have any kids so I don't use the kids clubs but I do appreciate that there is a space for kids to go and play and have fun.

Overall, I don't think there are any spaces on the ships that don't get used pretty heavily depending on the time of day and events going on. There are plenty of places I personally don't go, but that doesn't mean other people aren't using them. I'm just glad it's not my job to make these decisions.

Goofy's simulator and the ping pong tables out in the wind are good candidates.
I'd also like to see the ability for underage guests to walk through the area by Cove Cafe on the new ships be gone too.
Outlook in forward funnel can be better utilized.
Any remaining arcades should also be scrapped. I think Vanellopes is proving to be a better revenue stream and is used by more guests.

agreed, shutters is a massive space that could be put to better use. whenever we walked past pink on the dream it was EMPTY. I cant think of anything else I would want to lose, think that's why I'm hooked!

I've only been at the BVT on the Wonder and Magic and I have had different experiences than yours. Sadly we are stuck to school calendars and travel with lots of families with children, maybe wanting to be out and about than in a theater. We have found BVT mostly empty, on both ships, even for the newer movies. IMHO I think it's because of the comfort. I saw families leave after movie start time, because of the seating being uncomfortable. We left for that reason a few times but almost stuck it through the whole thing last time.
I must say that last year on the Magic they showed Big Hero in the WDT (Matinee) and it was way more enjoyable comfort wise. They could continue the trend and have a few extra showing in the WDT. The rehearsals etc.. could be worked in. Especially since the integration of Movies on Demand on the Dream Class I would definitely choose to watch in the comfort of the stateroom vs BVT.
I am thinking possibly AMC Cinima Suites type venue. Relax Eat and Enjoy a movie, A presentation etc.. in that space.

Well, the BVT on the Dream class ships is more like a modern movie theatre - rocking seats, arms lift up, cup holders:

On the Magic class, they were going for the more traditional, older movie theatre look:

I would NOT repeat the new space on the Dream of Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats. There was not a single person in there every time I walked by on our latest cruise, and really, do we need 50 more sweet for purchase options when you can get dessert anytime of day or night with Cabana's or room service? It's not a lot of space, but completely unnecessary. Use it as a boutique to sell more DCL or unique Disney merchandise.

Yes looks better on the Dream Class, The wooden backed chairs are a tough ride for a whole movie... This is a pic of the AMC newest with full service wait staff. amc-dite-red-kitchen.jpg

I agree with previous posters. I could do without Shutters. And the Outlook space could be better utilized.
We have been on three cruises and have never had the desire to visit the sports deck so I would like to see that developed in a different way.

I could see shrinking the atrium a bit here and there (snug the belt from all corners, just a smidge). I absolutely agree on comments above re: Shutters! and lastly, put me in the camp to reduce or repurpose some of the nightclub space.
