New Ship?

This from the DIS Newsletter received this morning (doesn't say where the info came from):

We’ve all heard that Disney Cruise Line is building a third ship and that they are waiting until the Dollar vs. the Euro thing works itself out. I know what your thinking…..yeah, yeah, yeah…..heard that……tell us something new.
Ok kids….this is the new stuff…. and it’s a list:
The new ship will be sailing out of Florida with the Magic moving to California
The name…The Disney Dream….of course.
There will be expandable restaurants. The main restaurants will be larger in size with parts able to be closed off or opened depending on need.
Another restaurant similar to Palo, but with a French Bistro theme
Animator’s Palate will be there, but all dolled up by a Las Vegas show designed, with many more special effects.
Children’s programming to be expanded and become much more involved.
The main pool will have an “Under the Sea with Nemo” theme. There will be things suspended over the pool (think fish) and stilt walkers.
The ship will be several decks taller then the current ships, but not wider. The current ships just fit through the Panama Canal.
There will be many more stateroom options including larger parties of 5 or 6 six passengers.
The Disney Dream will carry the same look as the current ships. It will have the classic 30’s Ocean Liner look.

That would be cool, and I don't doubt that the plans are ready to go, but the dollar is just so pathetically weak against the Euro right now (with no realistic turnaround in sight) that it may be four or five years before they begin construction. Figure 18 months or so at least to build, and it'll probably be into 2011 or 2012 before this puppy is up and running.

That's my guess, anyway.

We were told last October by a disney cruise line rep at a disney travel show that a third ship will go to Florida and stay in florida with the wonder and magic, and that the fourth ship will be coming to the west coast. Really I think anything said before it happens is pure speculation. They've told DL CMs one thing then a month later completely scrapped that idea and gone someplace (with rides, policies, etc.)

I received the same email today from the "DIS".

Is this fact or speculation again?

Anyone???

That is what I wondered. I guess it doesn't sound like it is going to happen anytime soon.

It will give us lots of time to save up though!

The name Disney Dream ain't gonna work. There is already a ship named "Norwedian Dream".

One more addition:
In place of the Mickey Pool, the one on the new ship will be heavily themed as Winnie the POO(H).

Hey, Barb, do you have a guess when the ship might sail?

i hope this whole thing is actually true, it sounds great, well they'll just have to change the name but thats not going to be hard, hopefully lol :teeth:

Wes, this is the first specifics that I've heard. I'll have to ask around when I sail in April. But at least a couple of years from the time they start building it...probably more with all the customization. That's what made the Magic run so far behind schedule.

You say you're sailing in april, would that happen to be the Western Caribbean of april 9th? cause thats the 1 I'm going on =)

Why cant two ships have the same name...they are different lines and different registries? There has been more than 1 ship with the Majesty name...

Or maybe it could be called the Disney Dreams (with an 's'--I have seen that one suggested before). That would be a different name.

I wonder if Disney did the calculations - how much more the ship would cost RIGHT NOW with the weak dollar, vs. how much profit they would lose over the next 3-5 years by waiting, to see whether the profit outweighs the added cost due to the weak dollar. Anyone out there know how much the ship is projected to cost? Anyone have a ballpark guess of DCL's yearly revenue/profit?

Maybe I'm just jaded, but am I the only one who interpreted this e-mail as just being tongue-in-cheek?

We've gone through all of this before, yet every week or so we get a new thread about a "new" ship (and the unlimited soda).

The fact is, we won't find out about a new ship ACTUALLY being built until Disney or a business trade newspaper announces it. It's too big and expensive a project to keep quiet about, and we certainly won't find out about it through a DIS newsletter.

Until then, it's all just rumors (and annoying ones, in my mind).

MickeyB426 - Ah, come on! It may just be rumors at this point, but it's FUN to dream!!! Kinda like me right now - can't afford to do another cruise right away but I am still a disboard addict dreaming of my next cruise... :)

It would be great if the 3rd ship does happen. Living on the West coast can be a drag for flying to Orlando each time for the disney cruise. We loose the 3 hrs and have to get an early flight just to be in town by 4:00pm that day.

I agree i would much rather save the money on plane fare to use on the cruise. Between the plane and town car service I would have a nice chunk of change to use on the ship. I really see no reaason as to why they wouldnt seeing as good as the cruises have sold on the west coast.
