New Ship

We just returned from the 9/28 cruise and got interesting, conflicting tidbits on the third cruise idea. I attended the Q&A on the last day at sea where the officers were quite non-commital about the idea.

However, our server at Palo talked about the new ship at length. He said the complete design process is almost finished, and that construction will begin in January. He said the new ship will be half again as big, and that the crew is very excited as it will have vastly improved facilities for crew (recreation, living quarters, etc.), as well as will offer the latest in technology for crew and passengers.

Did anyone else hear anything about this on recent cruises?

As I said before, I'd love it if this were true, but I'll believe it when I see it (or, at least, hear it from a source more authoritative than a server at Palo). Interesting how he had more information than the officers.

or he was just willing to reveal more than the officers

"1/2 as big as the Magic and Wonder"?

That seems contrary to the trend to build 'em bigger and bolder:confused:

The server apparently said "half again as big".... that is, 50% bigger than now.

According to my wife, there was mention of a third ship at the Castaway Club reception on the October 3rd sailing of the Disney Wonder.

I don't know, do you think they keep the wait staff informed of all of their plans for new ships? My experience with Disney is that they do not operate that way. The cast members at the parks are not really that much better informed than the avid parkgoer as to what is coming down the pike. On our December 2001 cruise, we got the same line, that they are researching a new ship and it's "in the design phase."

Call me a skeptic, but I'll wait until Disney or a shipyard actually announces that they are building a new ship. Until then, it's just rumor, and in my opinion, not very reliable rumor. I will be surprised (pleasantly) to see a new Disney ship before the end of 2004.
