New Ship Teaser Announcement

My first thought is it looks like a cross between a Royal Caribbean and Holland America ship. The bumps scream RCCL Voyager class, the additional upper decks at the front remind me of HAL's MS Koningsdam.

I think the bumps kind of ruin the nice lines that the 4 previous ships have... but who knows, it may look way better once built.

It reminded me of Royal ships too. Though on Royal I like that on some ships the bumps are there and it means that the atrium goes all the way up to the top letting in a lot of natural light...

Seems like a combo between the older Disney ships and the newer ones.

I wonder if that enclosed space in the front might be an observation lounge similar to NCL's Bliss.

Another thing to note is this says the ship will be 140,000 tons opposed the 135,000 tons they were previously saying.

I thought the same thing. Seeing all that glass made me think (hope) that this ship might be going to Alaska. With the opening of the new Panama Canal, the larger ships can now make that journey. As someone else pointed out, though, I really hope they don't just make that area a giant concierge lounge!

What ships are typically in Alaska at the 200’ mark? Are we larger or smaller comparatively?

A slightly bigger atrium would be great! Not all the way to the top of the ship since I think one appeal with Disney is you can see all the activities going on in the lobby, but maybe 4 decks high instead of 3.

I wish they had held off until they were willing/able to share something more substantive. The blog post tells us nothing new, and we likewise already knew the ships were going to look very close to Dream-class in terms of size and aesthetic.

Frankly, I don’t find the bumped-out verandahs and all the other small changes, in and of themselves, to be very exciting. Certainly not enough to treated as some big reveal at a shareholder meeting or on the Disney Parks blog. Kind of a non-event, IMO.

The forward upper decks with the sweeping bow windows look almost exactly like MSC Divina/Seaside Yacht Club areas. I would venture these are an expanded concierge with private spaces, perhaps including a lounge and restaurant. Interesting to think about since the MSC YC areas are geared towards a more adult experience.

Looks like an updated version of the Dream and Fantasy. I like it!

Can’t wait to see more details. Already ready to throw my money at DCL for the maiden voyage.

I know. It's weird. Ships with far greater gross tonnage than either of Disney's Dream class ships (NCL Bliss for example) can make that trip now. It all depends on the how the ship ends up being designed.

I have a feeling that all three ships will look like this. So I don’t see it as a sign that they’re sending on to Alaska... not that I would complain if they did.

I agree. Nothing really new. My guess is that they want the news regarding the addition of 3 new ships to stay relevant. It's been about 7-8 months since the announcement of 3 ships (rather than 2) at D23. With 3 years to go before the first scheduled sailing, it's a long gap. This way, they generate some buzz, which tides them over. My guess we'll get one more non-announcement at some point late 2018, leading up to a bunch of new details at the 2019 D23 Expo.

Given that they announce cruises about 15-18 months before the sail date, a 2021 sailing will probably be announced sometime in 2020. Sadly, I don't think I'll make Platinum by then...unless we do a few 2-nighters out of San Diego.

Well, the NCL Bliss has a much larger gross tonnage than the Dream class ships and it's going to do it. It's even going to Glacier Bay in 2019. I'm no maritime expert (hopefully some them will chime in), but I guess it just all depends on how the ship is designed.

Anything is possible... I think the price of them will stop some people from doing it and/or they've done a maiden before and probably won't feel the need to do it again. We racked them up quickly since we started in early 2011 and will just happen to be platinum after our xmas cruise this year so we should be set! I hope...!

The only issue I see with the bump outs would be the people on the sides of the bump out and the people in the cabins near them on the flat part will have a very cozy view of each other!!
