After a quick course in Digital Photographic Equipment taught by the assembled gurus here on the DIS Photography Board I reconsidered my course of action and instead of purchasing a G11 in preparation for my upcoming trip in December to The World I today purchased a Canon Rebel XS - AND - a nifty 50 (to try for those elusive Dark Ride photos).

And yes - after I uploaded the picture below I realized that since I was in Manual mode I should have set the White Balance...at this time I am a Point & Shoot person wandering around with a DSLR. So to the 'enry 'iggins of the board - there are 21 days until The Mouse - that is how much time you have to turn me into a DSLR ninja like you...:lmao:

In any case here it is, the first photo from my new camera.

A self portrait:

Since I had learned from the Board that RAW is my friend - here is the same image with the white balance corrected and cropped.

A self portrait (Take 2):

Cool...I got mine about 20 days before my trip. IT WAS AWESOME! I got some GREAT...well and not so great pictures. I can say it is not just like P & S...but I just satyed in manual mode and it was GREAT! ESP. outside during day. I had more trouble shooting at night...or in rides...READ...READ...RAED. There is a wonderful book..Canon EOS Digital Rebel Digital Field Guide by Charlotte K. Lowrie..it is a book that will teach you about YOUR camera...owners manual only tells so much! Look it up...I LOVE mine!:thumbsup2
