New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

There's only one Security checkpoint for all guests - whether they ride the Monorail or the Ferry. :)

Thanks so much for clarifying!
When this thread started some indicated that the ferry bag check would be once you got off the boat at MK but that's not what it seemed like in the pics so just wanted to know where I should expect to go through security next week since I'm staying offsite.

It's the smaller resort boat guests who are screened when the boat docks at MK.

It was confusing because no one really knew where those guests would be screened.

Seems to me that it is more convenient for Disney to leave all MK security at MK. By decentralizing it, they likely need a net addition to security people. Did Disney say why they are doing this? I'd have thought it was to make park opening/busy time go more smoothly- same for the new opening procedure at MK.
I'm speculating on their reasons of course, but this potentially does a couple things:

1) More space for more bag check stations. If the only way to get more people through security faster would be to add more check tables (and more staff, like you mentioned), this would have just kept making the entrance to the park more and more congested.

2) secures the monorail trains. It's weird to think those have been unsecured this whole time and there was never a major issue.

Any reports yet from folks who walked from Poly to TTC intending to catch the Epcot monorail? Or who hopped from MK to Epcot by transferring from the express or resort monorail to the Epcot monorail? I'm wondering where they had to go through security and if they ended up going through twice. Also, I think I read that the MK to Epcot monorail now exits into the secured area at Epcot - is that correct? And is the Epcot monorail entrance inside the secure area, so that people traveling from there to MK don't go through security at TTC?

I've been following this thread but may have missed posts - sorry if my questions are redundant!

I am checking all of this tomorrow. I'll be giving live reports throughout the day

I think this looks like a great idea. Spread it out, cover more areas. I like it.

Hi everyone... first post here. :goodvibes

I am at the at the Poly and walked to TTC yesterday to get to Epcot. We went through security at TTC and again at Epcot. It was around 9am and lines were pretty long, significantly more so at Epcot. Took a mid-day break and went back around 6. Breezed through at that time.

Yes, thanks for the information! Exactly what I wanted to know.

It was a hot mess this morning & we were at the entrance close to 8am, before the crowds.

I don't know what has already been reported so far ... but this is what we experienced this morning:

- no separate line for people with no bags. Everyone has to pass through the security tent.

- security cast is taking great care to check all contents of things like diaper bags & the CM at our line was unclear what is allowed into the park (baby food)

- in spite of being "random", everyone in our line was selected for metal detectors.

Aesthetically, it looks better in front of the train station .... but isn't any less of a mess

When we went thru yesterday there was a separate line at the TTC for guest with no bags, it is way off to the right. We walked in from the parking lot so it was easy to see for us.

I think how in-depth they go with the checking bags depends on the individual security guard. There was a security guard last year who literally made every person take out every single thing from the bags, well the security guard next to her in a two second check and let everyone in. Sometimes they just like the power I think.

I'm assuming you came via Disney bus from one of the resorts?
Thanks for reporting

I agree 100% with how every security CM checking bags seem to have a different way of scanning
I go to the parks 4 times a week and for work purposes carry a mini tripod that does not extend (pic below)
I have had security CM that look into my bag and wave me through
CM that take the tripod out and try to extend it on their own, pout it bag in the bag and wave me through
CM that take out the tripod and tell me selfie sticks are not allowed in, after I explain it is not a selfie stick the put it back and wave me through
CM that take out the tripod tell me it's not allowed after I explain it's a tripod make me try and extend it, take it in their hands they try to extend it, and put it back in my bag
I swear I am considering making a shirt that says "Yes I am streaming, no, it's not a selfie stick" :)

Is there a way to get from Poly to CR by boat? Or do you have to get off at MK and walk to CR? The WDW transportation map I found looks like there is one boat that loops between MK, GF, & Poly and a different boat that loops CR, Wilderness Lodge, & FW but I feel like I've read that a boat is one of the transportation options to get from CR to MK.

This summer we are staying at BLT and having breakfast at 'Ohana on our last morning before catching ME to the airport. The last time we did this we were at CBR so we took the boat from Poly to MK and transferred there to the bus back to CBR. I was thinking of taking the boat from Poly again (just because its a nice ride) but if we have to go through security at the MK boat dock before we can walk back to CR it might be easier to just take the monorail & go through security at Poly before we board.

I think it is past time for better security screenings in Disney World. My only comment would be for Disney to splurge on a better x-ray machine for those folks who have medical equipment implanted in them so that they are not forced to be patted down like a common criminal. My sister was there in January and asked not to go through their x-ray machine because when she did last year their basic x-ray machine altered her settings on her heart device. She has the medical device card that states she can't go thru that type of machine and they did not care.

In January when she told them what had happened the previous visit, she was forced to then wait for a female Supervisor to observe her being patted down. She was then made to pull up her t-shirt showing her stomach as well as pulling up the bottom of her capri pants as far as they could go. The pat down was very invasive and she was very upset by the uncaring security people. Now with that being said, everyone should be screened, but with all the money Disney makes from folks, why can't they put at least just one of those body scanners they have at the airport at each park so folks don't have to be treated this way if they happen to have medical implants where the older basic x-ray machines can cause them harm.

The little "Launches" do go to all resorts. We were in one from GF to Poly so you should experience the same to Contemp unless they screen at the resorts specifically for the resort launches and not the park launches.

Perhaps @yulilin3 can ask tomorrow?

There are 2 separate resort launches: one for GF & Poly, separate launch for CR & WL. To get from Poly to CR, you would indeed have to transfer to a different launch at MK or walk from there. Yes, it looks like you would have to go thru the new security at the launch landing. Probably quicker to take the monorail.

I think you are right. I usually take a really small neck bag which is almost big enough to hold a pair o glasses. I got stopped by one bag checker, and he looked at it and laughed and laughed. He said, "really?" So I'm glad I gave him his laugh for the day:) Now my husband wears cargo pants and carries my glasses:)
